Pokemon GOhas enjoyed a long history as a live service game, maintaining fan interest since 2016. However, Niantic’s latest attempt to keep the game fresh has gone a tad awry, drawing the ire ofPokemon GOfans.
September 2024has brought Dynamax Pokemon toPokemon GO—variants that can grow to giant size (first introduced inSword & Shield). Part of the current Max Out season, the availability of these Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokemon will run until December 3rd. Different Dynamax Pokemon will be made available in different brackets of the three-month season, with Dynamax Beldum the most recent to have hit the scene.
Dynamax Beldum Has Been Causing Fans Some Problems
However, Dynamax Beldumhasn’t been warmly received byPokemon Gofans. The main issue surrounding the mechanical critter is the bug-ridden state of its raids, a problem compounded by the cost of raiding Beldum in the first place. This has led to players wasting their free attempts at the fight in matches that either crash or are assailed by a variety of other glitches, creating an overall air of frustration. Though many fans are still excited about what Max Out still has in store, the bugs surrounding Beldum haven’t been good for the season.
Dynamax Beldum Is Tough, And The Crashes Aren’t Helping
Reddit is abuzz with complaints aboutDynamax Beldum being a tough customer(evident across subs like r/pokemongo, r/TheSilphRoad, and r/pokemongobrag), and said complaints often bring up the issue of being kicked out early. In accounts of this, players almost always mention that the occurrence happens early into the battle and in conjunction with an error message. The latter point confirms that something is amiss here, though the consistency has led users like u/HarbingerGNX or r/TheSilphRoad to suspect a timer mechanic was added without any visual signifiers. This is only speculation, but it would explain the consistency of these crashes.
Furthermore, players have also had trouble dodging Beldum’s attacks, and many claim that helpers become inert when facing them. To the former point, some (such as user u/SoilyDude on r/TheSilphRoad) have found that some attacks can be dodged by swiping the Pokemon to the side when three lines appear above its head. On the other hand, other attacks, those not signposted by a ‘Beldum is preparing to attack’ message, appear impossible to dodge. Overall, a glitchy experience with Beldum Dynamax appears to be a near-universal one, adding toPokemon GO’s already-extensive repertoire of bugs.
The Cost Of Fighting Dynamax Beldum
These glitches really become egregious in regard to the cost offighting and upgrading Dynamax Beldum inPokemon GO. A player can gain a maximum of 800 free Max Particles per day, and it costs 400 MP just to attempt the Dynamax Beldum raid. In addition, MP is required to upgrade Dynamax Pokemon alongside candies; though Beldum’s upgrade cost is the same in MP, it costs 20 more candy for level 2, and 10 more XL candy for level 3, when compared to prior Dynamax Pokemon.
The worst part about this exorbitant pricing is the fact that, despite Max Particles only being expended in a victoryelsewhere inPokemon GO’s Max Out season, the crashed Beldum fights have been eating up MP for many users. This has led to the two daily attempts at Dynamax Beldum often being wasted, all because of a widespread glitch. Fortunately, over the lifespan of Dynamax Beldum’s release, new tactics and techniques (such as the dodging measures described above) have been harnessed to beat Beldum faster, negating crashes in many cases. Regardless, a fix here is essential for maintaining interest in this three-month event.
