Summary

Pokémon Unitewill be shutting down in Belgium and the Netherlands on July 20, 2025. Originally launched in the summer of 2021 for the Nintendo Switch before making its way to mobile devices a couple of months later,Pokémon Uniteis a free-to-play MOBA developed by TiMi Studio Group and published by The Pokémon Company. Despite being over three years old at this point,Pokémon Unitestill receives regular updates that add new content to the game.

Pokémon Unite’s main draw is that it lets players play as Pokémon in a MOBA setting. Its ever-growing roster is regularly expanded with new Pokémon, withArmarouge making its debut earlier this month. FuturePokémon Uniteupdates will add even more Pokémon to the roster, with Darkrai confirmed for October and Psyduck making its debut in November. Clearly,Pokémon Uniteis popular enough to justify continued work on the game, so some fans may be wondering why it’s shutting down in certain regions.

The Pokémon Company did not provide a reason as to whyPokémon Uniteis shutting down in Belgium and the Netherlands. The game will beshut down on July 11, 2025, and players will no longer be able to purchasePokémon Unitemicrotransactions for things like Aeos Gemsstarting July 25, 2025. Needless to say, anyPokémonfans in those areas that enjoyPokémon Unitewill definitely want to get their fill between now and when the game’s services are shut down next year. It’s unfortunate thatPokémon Uniteis shutting down in those regions, but at least players have been given notice over a year in advance.

When is Pokémon Unite Shutting Down?

Presumably, newPokémon Uniteupdateswill continue to be released for the Belgium and Netherlands versions of the game even after microtransactions stop being sold on October 31. This wasn’t clarified, but withPokémon Unitebeing an online multiplayer game, it only makes sense.

Why is Pokémon Unite Shutting Down?

As for the reason whyPokémon Uniteis shutting down, again, The Pokémon Company did not provide an explanation, but there are a couple of plausible theories. Belgium and the Netherlands are strict aboutin-game purchases like loot boxesand microtransactions, and that could very well be a driving force behindPokémon Uniteshutting down in those areas. The other theory is thatPokémon Unitesimply isn’t popular enough in Belgium and the Netherlands to justify continued support, though that seems far less likely. Unless The Pokémon Company decides to provide more information, though, all fans can do is speculate about whyPokémon Uniteis shutting down in certain areas.
