Summary
An imaginativePokemonfan is receiving thousands of likes for their impressive custom Poke Balls, which feature designs based off of the franchise’s Legendaries from its third generation. Each of the Poke Balls made are sporting their respective Hoenn Legendary Pokemon’s defining physical features, and even come with color-coordinated lights surrounding the buttons, seemingly impressing the onlinePokemoncommunity at large.
Pokemon’s third generation marked the first instance of the series breaking away from the prior entries' established storyline, taking trainers to the island region of Hoenn, disconnected from Kanto and Johto. Consisting ofPokemon Ruby, Pokemon Sapphire, andPokemon Emerald- and laterFireRedandLeafGreen- Gen 3 is largely considered somewhat of a reset for the series, as it overhauled many of the systems from the first two generations. Seven generations on,PokemonGen 3 remains an outlierby being the only one to introduce two pseudo-Legendaries in Salamence and Metagross, something that hasn’t occurred since.
What has occurred since, however, arePokemonfans flexing their creative muscles in art featuring favorites from older generations. Such is the case with Reddit user threerobots, who posted their custom Poke Balls to one of the forum site’s primary pages. The post features six Poke Balls, based (in order) on Groudon, Kyogre, Rayquaza, Deoxys, Latios and Latias. Each ball features bold colors with sleek metallic finishes, though its unclear if they open. With multiple photos from multiple angles,Pokemonfans should be able to discern which ofsome of Gen 3’s best Pokemoneach ball belongs to pretty easily.
With well over 2,000 upvotes and dozens of comments at the time of writing, it’s safe to say the Gen 3 Legendary Poke Balls are resonating withPokemonfans. They were quick to point out, however, that several Gen 3 Legendaries are missing Poke Balls, of their own, including the Regis trio of Regirock, Regice, and Registeel, along with Jirachi. The creator seems aware of this, opining that a Registeel Poke Ball would look “so good.” This is hardly the first instance of threerobots making such creations, with thePokemonfanpreviously designing Poke Balls for Machop, Voltorb, and Elekid.
Fans Playing with a Poke Ball Design
Although the fan-made custom Poke Balls are certainly nice to look at, their functionality seems to be limited to display pieces. However, fans may soon have their hands on one that can do much more. It was recently revealed via a filed patent thata new Poke Ball controller from Nintendomay be in development, and one entirely different from the one released forPokemon GO. While there has been no official announcement made regarding the potential peripheral,Pokemonfans will keep on creating custom Poke Balls of their own.
