Summary
APokemonfan has created their own pet Magikarp in the form of a hologram. The remarkablePokemoncreation is something many fellow fans would like to have for themselves, allowing them to keep a fish bowl with a Magikarp wherever they like that can even interact with the user.
Having Pokemon in real life is something that many fans have dreamed of over the years. It’s one of the reasonsPokemon GO’s launch was so exciting, as the augmented reality game was one of the first opportunities to bridge the gap between the Pokemon world and the real world. While many fans still enjoy the game, it’s not quite the same as seeing what looks like a living, breathing Pokemon inhabiting one’s home. That’s what this particular player ended up achieving.
Reddit user captkuso shared their creation with fans, as well as avideo demonstratinghow the Magikarp came to life. The effect here is remarkable, with a brief video showing Magikarp casually swimming around in its fishing bowl. The Pokemon can react if a player taps the device beneath it, allowing it to “feed,” while some adjustments also allow it to hatch out of aPokemon egg.
Pokemonfans have been extremely enthusiastic about the creation. Players joked about feeding the Magikarp megabytes, or how it was cruel to raise a Magikarp in a fish bowl, comparing it to goldfish which can become too big for such an enclosure, alluding to itsGyarados evolution. Judging from the responses, it seems many fans of the Pokemon would love to have something like this for themselves. Thankfully, between the video shared and the post itself, captkuso has provided plenty of information on how this was achieved.
Pokemon Fan Demonstrates Magikarp Hologram
According to the video captkuso shared, the Magikarp hologram uses a form of the Pepper’s ghost illusion, which essentially reflects an image off of a surface onto an angled piece of glass or clear plastic. In this case, the tablet making up the base of the hologram provides the image of the Magikarp swimming around, while a piece of plastic inserted into the fishing bowl captures its reflection and makes it look like the image is originating in the bowl itself. Captkuso modeled the Magikarp and egg all on their own, and even shared the app they created so that others can use it, too.
Pokemonfans never stop finding creative ways to celebrate the franchise and its roster of pocket monsters. While having areal Pokemonis still just a dream, this cleverly crafted illusion is the next best thing.
