Summary

APokemonfan recently gave Onix and Steelix a new look by reimagining these creatures as Rock/Fire-type monsters.Pokemonfan art comes in different styles, and devising variants for popular critters using alternative types is one of the most popular ways to create new designs.

Introduced inPokemon Red and Blue, Onix is a Rock-type monster that is still popular with fans many years after its first appearance, especially due to it being one of Brock’s Pokemon in the franchise’s TV series. In thesecond generation ofPokemongames, Onix gained a new evolution, Steelix, which can be obtained by holding a Metal Coat while trading the creature. Steelix is a Rock/Steel-type Pokemon, and generally looks more menacing than its previous form, while still resembling an immense serpent made out of rock.

Now, aPokemonfan artist called Just-Drawing-Mons shared their latest artwork with the community: alternative Rock/Fire-type versions of Onix and Steelix. These are pretty interesting new designs, as they keep the overall shape of the original critters, but add some clever tweaks that make these forms look distinct. For example, both Pokemon have glowing orange eyes and mouths in the fan art, as well as several spots with the same color, making it seem as if there was magma inside these serpent-like monsters.

Fire/Rock-Type Onix and Steelix Pokemon Fan Art

This alternative form is just one of the many designs created by Just-Drawing-Mons in the last few weeks. Last month, for example, the artist createdan incredible Mega Evolution for Sunflora. In this new design, the fan reimagined Sunflora’s head as a bright sun and gave it a green and grey body.

Obviously, Just-Drawing-Mons is not the onlyPokemonfan who has created an alternative form for Onix. Last month, another fan shared aD20-inspired Onix fan artwith the community, being praised for the creativity of the design. This version of the Rock-type Pokemon has a slightly different shape, replacing the rock segments of the critter’s body with blue dice.

Another good-looking fan art featuring a monster with alternative types that was shared with the community recently was aFire/Steel-type variant of Krookodile. In this case, the fan reimagined the Gen 5 Ground/Dark-type Pokemon with metal skin, and some orange spots and smoke representing some kind of heat inside it. Hopefully, other talentedPokemonfan artists will keep sharing well-designed pieces such as these ones with the community in the coming weeks.
