Summary

A creative and artistically talentedPokemonfan has created an impressive design concept for Porygon3, making a rather unique depiction of what the theoretical evolution could look like. The distinctive fan evolution manages to differentiate itself enough from its prior forms, yet familiar enough for even casualPokemonfans to recognize what it’s supposed to be.

One of the more unique creatures in the decades-spanningPokemonfranchise, Porygon is considered to be the first artificial Pokemon, created entirely from human technology. With the advent ofPokemon’s second generation, Porygon’s evolution, Porygon2, took a wildly different form, replacing its geometric body with a smooth, rounded one, though it largely kept the same profile. Porygon-Z, the second evolution, changes the design even further, detaching the head from the rest of the body. While aPokemonfan made a Paradox form for Porygon-Zrecently, this fan created an all-new, third evolution, which takes things in an interesting direction.

The Porygon3 concept art comes courtesy of a Reddit user with the handle of w00dsmen, who posted their work to one of the forum website’s primaryPokemonpages. Sporting far more of an upright, bipedal stance than any of its other forms, the fan’s Porygon3 design bears a resemblance to a drinking bird, the classic perpetual motion device which dips the bird’s beak into water. While largely sticking to the original blue-and-pink color scheme, Porygon3 adds a navy hat fromthe Devon Corporation technology company, along with being inside a clear portion of its body, furthering the drinking bird motif.

In less than 24 hours of being posted, thePokemonfan artist’s creation has nearly reached triple digits in upvotes; a testament to the design’s popularity with the onlinePokemonfan community at large. The Porygon3 concept is interestingly a dual-type Normal/Psychic, giving it a second typing beyond Porygon, Porygon2, and Porygon-Z’s purely Normal typing. The artist also notes that Porygon3 is intended to be colored inthe famous Ken Sugimori color style, often cited by longtimePokemonfans as one of the best art styles overall.

From The Original Porygon to Porygon3

In addition to creating a third, post-evolution for the Porygon line, the same artist alsocreated pre-evolutions for Miltank and Tauros. Taking the same approach as thePokemonfranchise does with creatures like Nidoran, the artist created Calfby, a calf which would evolve into Miltank if female, and Tauros if male. Although neither Calfby nor Porygon3 are actually real, thePokemonfranchise could always turn to its prolific fanbase should it need a source of inspiration for new creatures.
