Payday 3was meant to be the next big hit for Swedish developer Starbreeze Studios and publisher Deep Silver. The game was, after all, a direct follow-up to the popular 2013 co-op heist shooterPayday 2, which sold over 40 million copies in 10 years. However, at launch,Payday 3’s servers were unable to keep up with the large influx of players and, as a result, they suffered from constant outages and connection issues. This meant that, due to its online-only nature, the first-person shooter was practically unplayable upon release. Unsurprisingly, these technical issues were met with widespread backlash from fans, which ultimately led the game’s player counts to fall off dramatically.
Although it accrued more than 1.3 million players across all platforms shortly after launch, Starbreeze’s troubled co-op shooter has failed to achieve the same kind of longevity as its predecessor. Payday 3’s new heist, in which players can rob a stock exchange building, is the highlight of Fear & Greed, an upcoming expansion that will add quite a bit of content to the game. This DLC will include, among other things, new masks, suits, and gloves that players can wear, in addition to new guns, weapon cosmetics, and modifications. Although gamers will have to pay an upfront cost in order to access the content in Fear & Greed, the expansion will launch alongside a free update. This will not only feature new masks, Twitch drops, and quality-of-life improvements, but will also include a new playable heister named Houston and a new overkill weapon called the Minigun M135. Both the free content update andthe Fear & Greed expansionwill be released on Monday, September 16.
