During its mid-Season 11 update on July 23,Overwatch 2introduced the Bound Demon Mythic weapon skinfor Reinhardt. Though it had released the Hard Light and Los Muertos weapon skins in the past, Bound Demon was the first one of Mythic quality, featuring unique on-kill effects, kill streak reactivity, and even a weapon flourish animation.
However, it seems the Bound Demon Mythic weapon skin just received another special feature in a recent update. As of theOverwatch 2mid-Season 12 update on September 17, Reinhardt’s Bound Demon now has a unique, glowing UI effect around the character’s Ultimate meter. Orange-red runes can be seen in a circle around Earthshatter, expanding as players reach killstreak thresholds along with the weapon’s own transformations. Overwatch Cavalry captured footage of this new effect and shared it on Twitter for those interested in seeing the weapon evolve in action.
New HUD Effects for Overwatch 2 Mythic Weapon Skin
These new UI effects are presumably unlocked in the Bound Demon’s second tier, as it also reacts to the weapon as Reinhardt gets more kills. That means players would need to spend 60 Mythic Prisms – a $50 value, or three quarters of the currency earned from a single Premium Battle Pass – in order to get the weapon and its first upgrade. The cost of this cosmetic is high, but thisnew element does make theOverwatch 2Mythic weapon skinall the more enticing.
Overwatch 2fans were torn about the new HUD effect for the Bound Demon weapon skin. Some players are concerned that the runes would increase visual clutter and would actually be a detriment to them in matches. Others think this effect should have been included in the premium cosmetic to begin with, and still believe theMythic weapon skins inOverwatch 2are far too expensive. Either way, most fans agreed the rune effects themselves are awesome, regardless of their opinions on the pricing.
One of the othermajor features teased for Season 12 ofOverwatch 2was a new Mythic weapon skin for Ana that has yet to be released. Called Midnight Sun, this radiant rifle also appears to have reactivity with it, so many fans are hopeful the skin will include a unique HUD effect as well. Season 12 is set to end on October 15, so hopefully, Ana players can finally get their hands on their own Mythic weapon skin in the next few weeks.
