Ever since their first appearance in The Reverie Arc, fans had always guessed that Imu would beone of the most powerful charactersin all ofOne Piece. Though, for the longest time, the nature of their power was never truly known, it was hinted at towards the end of the same arc, when Sabo rescued King Cobra, prompting Imu and the Gorosei to transform into monstrous silhouettes.
However, Chapter 1125 of theOne Piecemanga seemed to give fans a much deeper look intowhat Imu’s true abilities may be. Though they remain vague and unlike anything else the series has shown before, fans' understanding of these powers has increased since they were given more to theorize on. So, let’s go over Imu’s awesome ability and theorize what it could be!

Saint Jaygarcia Saturn Meets His End
The Egghead Island arc was one of the best ones in the entire series according to fans, and this is praise that it certainly deserves. The biggest reason for this was that it gave the biggestlore dump for the Void Centuryand the state of the world than ever before, as well as delivering incredible action sequences and reveals. To deal with whatever was happening on Egghead, one of the Gorosei went to Egghead themselves.
Being the God of Science for the World Government, Saint Jaygarcia Saturn had Vegapunk and everything else on Egghead under his direct control, so he decided that his presence was needed to protect their interests on the island. However, everything went wrong for the World Government despite the presence of all 5 Elders on the island due to Emeth’s awakening and the release of Joyboy’s ancient Haki, which was powerful enough to send the rest of the Gorosei back to Marijois and knock out almost every other Marine that was present.
Despite Saturn considering this mission a success due to the procurement of Punk Records and the death of Vegapunk, Imu didn’t see it that way. Joyboy’s Haki was so formidable that it was felt across the world, especially by Imu, who became enraged at the brief thought that Joyboy may have returned. Thoughtheir relationship with one anotheris still unconfirmed, it’s inferred that the thing Imu dreads the most is Joyboy’s reawakening.
What happened next was something that fans had never seen before in the series. From half a world away, Imu was somehow able to strip Saturn of his powers and immortality because they blamed him for allowing Emet to awaken and Joyboy to escape. In a fiery black aura, Saturn was writhing in pain and begging for mercy as Imu stripped him of his powers, leaving him as nothing more than a skeleton!
The Nature Of Imu’s Ability
What could this power be?
There have been many theories about what Imu’s powers may be, considering nothing like them has ever been seen before in the entire series. At first, everyone just believed that the 5 Elders each hadMythical Zoan Devil Fruitsthat had been awakened or, due to the evil nature of their transformations, could have even been a new class of Zoan type fruits altogether, akin to something like Demonic Zoan Type Devil Fruits!
However, chapter 1125 more or less confirms that these powers are likely not due to any kind of Devil Fruit since Imu is the one who would’ve bestowed these powers upon the Gorosei in the first place! More than just straight-up killing Saturn, it was implied that he died due to Imu taking something away from him which sapped his immortality and transformation abilities. Just as much, Imu could have just been taking away these powers directly that led to Saturn’s demise.
Saturn… Why did you allow Joyboy to escape?!
This chapter also reveals that Saturn was alive 200 years ago, officially confirming the theory that the Gorosei are immortal beings who have presumably been the face of the leaders of the World Government since the end of the Void Century. By taking this alongside how Imu wasable to take away Saturn’s powers, it is also implied that Imu is the one to gift them this immortality in the first place.
This also opens up many possibilities for the future of the World Government asOne Pieceenters its final saga. This is because Saint Figarland Garling was appointed as Saturn’s replacement as the Godhead of Science within the 5 Elders. Since he is already hinted at as being one of the most powerful people in the world due to his position as head of the God’s Knights and a prominent figure in the God Valley Incident, it would be interesting to see how much stronger he would be with new powers granted to him by Imu, such as a powerful new Yokai form!
