TheResident Evilfranchise has had a pretty solid run in the world of virtual reality. Taking a bold first step,Resident Evil 7launched with PSVR compatibility, allowing headset owners to play through the entire game in virtual reality. In October 2021, a VR version of the oft-remastered, ported, and remadeResident Evil 4hit the Meta Quest, and it’s still widely considered to be one of the best experiences for the headset almost three years later. And just last year, bothResident Evil VillageandResident Evil 4 Remakewere given free PSVR2 updates.

It seems likely that Capcom will want to continue pursuing its VR ventures with theResident Evilfranchise, but it might be some time before the next mainline entry or remake releases. Instead, Capcom could look toResident Evil’s past for more VR content. There’s oneREspinoff that would perfectly suit a VR makeover, and it could land at the ideal time.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Deserves a VR Remake Now More Than Ever

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles' Gameplay Perfectly Suits VR

Released in November 2009 – just a few months afterResident Evil 5–Resident Evil: The Darkside Chroniclesis aWii light gun shooter. Players are given four lengthy scenarios to play through, each of which has them blasting classicResident Evilenemies with the Wii remote or the Wii Zapper that was bundled with certain versions of the game. Though VR games have evolved quite a bit since the early days of on-rails shooters likeUntil Dawn: Rush of Blood, that type of gameplay still suits the VR format well.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles VR Would Prepare Fans for The Rumored Code: Veronica Remake

According to a rumor started by the leaker Dusk Golem back in May,Resident Evil 0andResident Evil - Code: Veronicaare the nextREgames set to be remade by Capcom. As of July 08, 2025, that still seems to be the case, with Dusk Golem claiming thattheResident Evil 0andCode: Veronicaremakeswon’t be quite as ambitious as last year’sResident Evil 4 Remake.

But ifResident Evil - Code: Veronicais next up to bat, thena VR remake ofResident Evil: The Darkside Chronicleswould be perfectly timed.Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicleslets players blast their way through four separate scenarios, and two of these scenarios are retellings ofResident Evil 2andResident Evil - Code: Veronica. WithCode: Veronicabeing a fairly obscure game, its appearance in a hypotheticalDarkside Chroniclesremake would be a great way to give fans an abridged version of the original’s story before any changes in the upcoming remake.

A Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles Remake Would Also Bridge The Gap Between Other Entries

The other two scenarios inResident Evil: The Darkside Chroniclesrevolve around “Operation Javier,” a military mission that sees franchise favorite Leon S. Kennedy and Jack Krauser head to a South American village in an attempt to apprehend a former Umbrella Corporation collaborator. These exclusive set of missions directly tie into the events ofResident Evil 4, and they’re even mentioned by name in last year’s remake. A remake ofThe Darkside Chronicleswould also let fans experience that prequel for themselves.
