TheNo Man’s SkyAquarius updateintroduced many different species of fish to the game. Some of these species are only found on planets with a specific biome. There are fish that only like hot water, and fish that only like cold water, for example.
To catch a species that inhabits a specific biome, the player will need to use the star map to find a system that not only has the right kind of planet but also has water. Not all systems have bodies of water.
5The Weather Impacts Fishing
Some Fish Can Only Be Caught In A Storm
Just as some fish species can only be caught in a specific biome, there are species that can only be caught in certain weather conditions, such as a storm. This can be problematic for some players, who don’t have particularly capable life support technology equipped in their exosuit.
But it isn’t just health concerns that make fishing in a storm problematic. During a storm, waves can get quite large, and this makescatching fishmuch slower. Every time a wave lifts the player’s bobber, it moves the bait away from any fish that is about to bite. They then need to swim back to the bait. It is possible to get into a loop, where the fish never gets close enough to the bait before a wave carries it away again.
4The Day/Night Cycle Impacts Fishing

The biome of a planet and its weather have an impact on fishing, but so does the time of day. There are species of fish that can only be caught at night and others that can only be caught in the daytime.
Players who are targeting a specific species will need to work out whether they need to wait until the sun sets or rises, before starting to fish for them. Not every planet has the same day length, so finding a planet with a nice, long day/night cycle is the best idea, as this will give more time to fishing during the right period until it changes.
3Shallow And Deep Water Have Different Species

Shallow water and deep water are treated differently for fishing inNo Man’s Sky. Some species, generally the largest ones, can only be caught in deep water. This means heading away from shore out into the ocean to fish.
This brings its own problems, as the player needs a platform to fish from. The best option is to use theExo-Skiffwhich is a reward given out during the Aquarius expedition. For players who don’t have an Exo-Skiff, a ship with a flat roof can hover over the water and be used as a fishing platform.
2Select The Correct Bait
Bait Can Be Used To Target Specific Species
Previous entries on this list have explained how the weather, temperature of a planet, and even the time of day can have an impact on the species of fish that can be caught. However, there are specific baits intended to help overcome these scenarios.
For example, there is bait that is intended to attract fish that can only be caught at night, or during the day. There are also baits that attract larger fish, or higher-tier fish. Bait can either be crafted or cooked from a standard recipe, or created by trial and error, trying different raw resources as bait.

It is well worth taking the time to complete phase 4 of the expedition to get this fishing rig, as it significantly improves the chances of catching large and rare fish. It should only take a few hours of gameplay to unlock as well.
