10Select A Low Difficulty Realm To Start

Don’t Try To Prove A Point, Just Learn The Basics First

Though players might feel like they’re veterans of survival games,Nightingalehas a lot of different thingsabout its core mechanics and the way the Realms work, which makes it quite difficult to adapt to. There’s no shame in picking up the lowest levels of difficulty to start adjusting to the game. The game doesn’t punish players in any way, as a matter of fact, it is encouraged that they begin at a Low Difficulty setting and then scale from there as they gain knowledge and gear.

At higher levels of difficulty, players might encounter higher tiers of resources and materials, and of course, stronger enemies. But not everything needs to be solved with a fight. Some intelligent creatures like Giants and Eoten enjoy bargaining, and players might get just what they’re looking for by trading with these beasts.

9Avoid Corrupted Realms At The Beginning

If The Skies Are Red, It Doesn’t Bode Well

During the Tutorial, Puck will teach players how to “purify” a Realm using a Realm Cleansing Card, which eliminates all the effects currently applied to said realm. In this particular case, players will see that the sky is turned into a perpetual reddish/blood-like night sky: which means Danger. Avoiding Corrupted Realms is a must since this particular effect will cause The Bound (corrupted Fae) to constantly spawn near the player, no matter what he is doing, or where he goes.

This means that players will need to fight constantly, each second, eternally, until the effect of the Corruption on the Realm dissipates using a Realm Cleansing Card. There are two possible solutions for this: either turning back until the gear level is enough to face the challenge or using the aforementioned Card in the Realm Card Machine to cleanse this effect. But this also will cleanse all other positive effects the realm might have, like enhanced resource yield for example. Be it as it may, always carry a Realm Cleansing Card, since players never know when they might come in handy.

8Use Realm Cards To Boost Exploration And Resource Gathering

Pick A Card, Any Card

Speaking about the Realm Card Machine, players can use it to alter the state of the Real, the boons it has, the creatures that inhabit it, and basically everything. They just need to get their hands in the Enchanter’s Focus technology, unlocked through the Progression window using Essence, then players can either find more Realm Cards in chests or craft them using the Workbench.

In case players need a particular resource, they should know which effect each Realm Card causes in the environment: from increased resource yield to boosting the apparition of certain ruins and puzzles, they’re certainly the best option to target specific resources and increase progression speed. Players can check the current Realm effects by opening the map window pressing (M).

7Forget About Melee, Ranged Is The New Meta

Shoot, Run, Shoot Some More

The Realms Rebuilt update broughtpowerful boosts to the ranged weapons, and also introduced two new weapons of the lower tier to include in that type: Bows and Throwing Knives. It also turned the Scythe into a mid-range ranged weapon that can be thrown like a boomerang and is particularly strong against groups of enemies.

While Throwing Knives and Scythes can be combined together, Bows require two hands to operate, but they’re also able to deliver powerful Heart Shots, which are considerably harder to land, but can almost certainly kill an Elephant in one shot, or any creature in the Realms. Of course, players can also try the Slingbow, which can be charged with marbles that cause different types of elemental damage and are tremendously useful against certain types of enemies, like the Automatons.

6When In Doubt, Use An Umbrella

They’re Good For More Than Just Movement

Umbrellas are basically vehicles inNightingaleand the best way players have to reach from point A (high) to point B (below) safely. They not only provide some useful boosts to defense and magic power but also protect the wearer from weather effects such as rain and hail.

The only downside they have is that players need to have one hand free to equip them, and this means one-handed weapons need to be in the other. A Knife would do the trick, but players can also equip Pistols, and fly away as they shoot a barrage of bullets at their enemies. When players need to move, Umbrellas become quite useful, but pay attention to your stamina bars, as they will constantly deplete while using them.

5Hire A Follower, And Equip It With A Backpack

Basically A Living Wheelbarrow

Followers are a must-have for every Realm Walker, since they not only help players survive encounters with dangerous creatures, but can perform simple (and annoying) tasks like farming rocks and wood, and also carry the stuff that is too heavy for them to lift. Whenever players have reached the maximum carry capacity, they can relocate some of their items to their followers' inventory.

They can also equip followers with a backpack to enable them to carry more stuff. The only downside is that there can only be one follower active at the same time. But worry not, since most of the time, one will do the job.

4Equip Your Follower With A Decent Weapon, It Will Save Your Life

Your Luggage Carrier Can Also Fight

Players can also equip followers with weapons and they’ll fight to the death against all enemies who threaten their masters. Most followers have a certain equipment set they can use, so players need to check this out before selecting the appropriate weapon for them.

If players want them to shoot with certain ranged weapons, they need to provide ammunition for them as well.

Once they do that, followers become powerful allies in combat and exploration, providing unconditional support each time players need it, but beware: they can be taken down and will remain in a paralyzed state until revived by the player.

3Quartz Is Valuable, Stock Up On It As Much As You Can

I See A Shiny Rock, I Pick It

As they travel through the Realms, players might come across white crystal formations in rocks, cliffs, caves, and mainly in the coastal zones of the maps, these indicate that there are Quartz deposits there.

Quartz is useful to createBaubles and other crafting equipmentthat players need to make specialized magical items, like Infusions, and Enchantments at the Enchanter’s Focus. Quartz is also needed to craft bottles which are needed for potions at the Alchemy Boiler. So, don’t be scared and grab Quartz any time there’s a chance.

2Don’t Forget You Can Teleport To Your Base

Why Walk, If You Can Teleport?

The Travel To Respite function is always available once you build your first base using the Estate Cairn. Once the initial structure is placed, players can travel back anytime they want by using this function when opening the map window by pressing M. Players can use their Estate cairn to set their Respite Realms location and their teleport location.

The only drawback is that players cannot use this teleport skill if they’re trapped in certain places like specific quest dungeons like Abeyances, or affected by the burdened by loot effect. In those cases, getting out to the surface and sharing some of the loot with the follower might do the trick.

1Rest Properly, Eat 3 Types Of Food To Buff Health And Stamina

Boosting Your Stats Is The Way To Go

Needless to say, there are two things that affect players in most survival games: one is hunger, and the other is weariness. InNightingale, those two debuffs are expressed as a lack of health and stamina, which ends up weighing down players and preventing them from doing too much.

To prevent this, players need to sleep in their bases or a crafted refuge and eat properly. Crafting a small camp with a Stick Tent and a Bed Roll, and cooking with a Basic Cooking Station will do the trick, but resting in their Respite Realm on the base will provide more buffs.Different types of food provide different buffs, like stamina boosts, health boosts, and regeneration, so watch out for those as well. You can also change the Realm/ game’s general difficulty while resting, so keep that in mind.
