As the summer 2024 season winds down, anime fans are turning their attention to the fall. Thisyear’s fall lineup looks to have a little bit of something for everyone, with plenty of sequels to go alongside highly anticipated series likeDragon Ball Daima,Uzumaki,and theRanma ½remake.
The Animate Times – a subsidiary of Animate, Japan’s largest anime, game, and manga retailer – recently surveyed fans,asking what their most anticipated fall anime are. The current top 10 is made up of a variety of shows, with sequel anime looking like the clear winner.
The Fall 2024 Season is Full of Sequels (and Fans Love It)
The fall season is full of sequel anime, with popular series likeRe:Zero,Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, andBlue Lockmaking their highly anticipated returns. While sequels do seem to be set to be this fall season’s most popular titles, there are a handful of non-sequels that have fans buzzing as well.

Having first aired back in 2015,Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?isone of the most popular fantasy anime around. So it’s no surprise to see that fans are eagerly awaiting the anime’s fifth installment following the success of season IV. The fifth season will kick off with a festival and a mysterious letter, with Bell facing his greatest challenge yet.

TheRurouni Kenshinreboot series is going strong, with season 1 wrapping up back in December. After almost a year off, season 2 (titled the “Kyodo Disturbance Arc”) has fans excited for more. The second season was announced in March as part of the Fuji TV Anime Lineup Press Conference 2024 event, where it was also revealed that the Kyodo Disturbance Arc would be part of the Noitamina programming block and receive a two cours run, similar to season 1.

Based on the light novel written by Keiichi Sigsawa and illustrated by Kouhaku Kuroboshi, theGun Gale Onlineanime first aired during the Spring 2018 season. Arriving six years after the release of season 1, production ofGun Gale Online IIwill be handed off to A-1 Pictures after 3Hz handled the initial series, with all four main cast members set to return.

The originalRanma 1/2anime ran from 1989-1992, with 3 movies and several OVAs following it.

The longest-running series in this group,Natsume’s Book of Friendsreturns for a seventh season. The anime adaptation of Yuki Midorikawa’s manga of the same name first aired during the 2008 Summer season and has been going strong ever since. Crunchyroll describes the series as:
