Throne and Libertyhas managed to attract a large playerbase on Steam just days ahead of its worldwide release, data shows. Gamers in the Americas, Europe, and Japan can currently only access the PC version ofThrone and Libertythrough the Valve-owned platform, but that has not stopped it from skyrocketing in popularity.
Developed by NCSoft,Throne and Libertyis a free-to-play MMORPG powered by Unreal Engine 4. The title launched in South Korea last December, and it later became available in several other countries in July. The global version ofThrone and Libertyis now set to release on October 1with help from Amazon Games, but this build, which is coming to PC and ninth generation consoles, has already become a hit.
Throne and Libertyhas reached a peak of 54,812 concurrent players on Steam since its early access period began, according todata provided by analytics tracker SteamDB. WhileThrone and Libertyis free, those who purchase any of the game’s early access bundles can start playing in advance starting September 26. On Steam, the cheapest pack that provides early access costs $39.99, while the most expensive bundle is just three cents shy of $100. The latter pack comes with several morphs, outfits, titles, and an emote. It also contains 1,000 Lucent, the paid in-game currency that can be used to buy items, as well asThrone and Liberty’s premium battle pass.

NCSoft, known for handling theGuild WarsandLineagegames, announced the first iteration ofThrone and Libertyin 2011. Thehighly anticipated free-to-play gamewas initially envisioned as a sequel to the originalLineage, but it was transformed intoThrone and Libertydown the line following a reportedly disappointing closed beta phase. To be given enough time to integrate important changes and systems, Amazon Games pushed back the release ofThrone and Liberty’s global version from September 17 to October 1.
Lord of the Rings MMO in Production at Amazon Games
Amazon Games revealed in May that it had started working on an open-world MMO based onThe Lord of the Rings. This unnamed game, which will feature the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien’s beloved literary trilogy andThe Hobbit, is coming to PC and consoles. Amazon Games had already tried making an MMO based onThe Lord of the Ringsin the past, but that project was eventually canceled. Meanwhile, several MMORPGs are currently being developed by NCSoft, includingsci-fi shooterProject LLLand a sequel to the long-runningAion. Aside fromThrone and Liberty’s global version, NCSoft also released the 30-player brawlerBattle Crushin 2024.
