It appears that Meta has accidentally leaked some interesting new details about theMeta Quest 3S, including a new feature called the Action Button. The latest consumer-grade virtual reality headset from the company is the Meta Quest 3, which offers the highest resolution outside of the Meta Quest Pro, which is more industry and business-focused. The rumored Meta Quest 3S - formerly known as theMeta Quest 3 Lite- will allegedly be a more affordable device that will bridge the gap between the Meta Quest 2 and 3, with some downgrades from the Meta Quest 3.
Now, a VR fan called Lunayian has spotted some interesting information on Meta’s official support page that has since been taken down. On the passthrough support page, the site temporarilyreferred to the Meta Quest 3Sby name, and revealed that it will have a new feature called the Action Button. This Action Button is designed to allow users to quickly shift between full virtual reality and passthrough modes, and will seemingly replace the double-tap feature that the Meta Quests have used up to this point to access the same functionality. Another support page temporarily revealed that the Meta Quest 3S will also have the bystander signaling light that the current Meta Quest 3 has.
Why Did Meta Quest 3S Details Leak on the Official Support Pages?
There’s a good chance that these new support pages were uploaded by accident in preparation for the upcoming Meta Connect event. The event will run from September 25-26, and will be Meta’s annual opportunity to talk about what’s in development and what the future holds for the company’s AI, virtual reality, and mixed reality devices. Meta Connectrevealed the Meta Quest 3 headsetback in 2023, with it launching less than a month later. This same timetable may hold true for the Meta Quest 3S as well, so users could be getting their hands on it as early as October 2024.
Similar toPlayStation’s recent leaks, Meta has repeatedly either accidentally or intentionally teased this device without officially stating that it exists. Virtual reality fans will have to wait and see what’s officially in the cards for the company later in September, but for the moment, it looks as though the existence and details of the Meta Quest 3S are all but confirmed.
