The White Fang of the Leaf, Sakumo is a character from theNarutoseries that fans have always been intrigued by. This character was introduced to the fans in the latter half of Naruto, where, through the likes of Obito, the character was brought up for the first time. Sakumo Hatake is very important in Kakashi’s life, as he was his very own father. Unfortunately, in the timeline of theNarutoseries, he was already dead, and the reason for his death was quite shocking as he committed suicide.
There is very little that fans know about Sakumo Hatake, but what little fans do know is enough for them to be intrigued by this character so much that even a decade after the conclusion of the story, they want more attention to be thrown at this individual.
What Fans Know About Sakumo Hatake So Far
There is very little information about Sakumo Hatake available to the fans at this point. For one, fans know that he wasfrom the Hatake clan of Konoha, whom Kakashi also hails from. Of course, this clan is not necessarily special in any way, and it also doesn’t appear that they possess some special powers. However, what one can say is that Sakumo Hatake was an exceptional ninja. In fact, his strength was such that everyone from all over the world feared him. He was active around the time of the Second Great Ninja War, and his strength was such that the people of Sunagakure panicked at his presence. This was hinted at when Chiyo mistook Kakashi for Sakumo. The fact was that Sakumo had traumatized people from many villages due to his incredible strength and skill, and this just goes to show the level that he operated on.
You should remember his name, Kakashi! He will become a good rival! – Sakumo
Aside from that, fans also know that Sakumo met his end shortly around or after this war. Sakumo Hatake, being a top-ranking ninja of Konoha, had to adhere to the policies of the village. However, during the war, at one particular point, he went against the ninja code and did something that many deemed to be unthinkable. Essentially, Sakumo decided to abandon his mission in order to save a friend. He was successful in rescuing the friend, but the mission, of course, failed.
Naturally, given that these were war circumstances, the failure of this mission weighed heavily, and because of that, he was ridiculed all over the village. From the higher-ups to the normal people, everyone despised Sakumo for what he did and he became an outcast. What’s even worse was that even the friends that he did go on to save turned on him, and Sakumo could not take it any longer. To him, people who abandoned their friends for a mere rule were not worthy of calling themselves ninjas, and that is why he followed his own code and saved their lives.
Unfortunately, the pressure of ridicule got to a point where Sakumo took his own life, leaving a very young Kakashi Hatake behind. Fans also got to see Sakumo again when Pain killed Kakashi and they met in a realm between life and death. Although this meeting was pretty short, it was certainly exciting for the fans to see father and son reunite once again. Naturally, it was not Kakashi’s time to go, and he was revived later on, which meant that their meeting was short-lived.

Will Sakumo Ever Get A One-Shot?
Sakumo’s Chances Of Getting A One-shot Are Low At The Moment
The question of whether Sakumo will ever get a one-shot or not is quite an interesting one. The short answer to the question would be that it is highly unlikely for him to get a one-shot anytime soon. However, a more in-depth answer is that there is certainly a big possibility that Sakumo will get a one-shot eventually. Recently, the creator of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto, was speaking at a convention, where he was asked about his intention to do more One Shots, following his great success with the Minato one shotthat he launched in 2023. Kishimoto clearly stated that he would love to do more such one-shots and that he is going to follow the order of the Naruto global popularity poll, most likely. Of course, Kishimoto also added that he says this half-jokingly, but he also added that in life, nobody ever knows and that it is possible for him to write these stories, starting with Itachi Uchiha, up next.
Looking at Sakumo Hatake, fans know that he finished in the 7th position on the global popularity poll. This means that he’s in line to get a one-shot, and eventually, if Kishimoto does continue to do one-shots for at least the top 10, he will go on to get his own story, which is something that fans can be glad about. Unfortunately, his ranking not being high enough means that they will have to wait quite a bit to see his story being illustrated.
