Summary
Nami has been traveling with the Straw Hat Pirates for a long time. She may not be one ofOne Piece’s strongest characters, but she is one of the smartest and best-looking. While working as the crew’s navigator, Nami has repeatedly proven it’s possible to have both looks and smarts.
And she knows it. The Straw Hat Pirates tend to change their outfits pretty regularly, but Nami takes it to another level. She has a new look in pretty much every arc and will sometimes change her outfit mid-arc too. SinceOne Piecehas been running since 1999, that means she has a fair few outfits under her belt by this point. Some of them are excellent, some a bit full, and more than a handful verge on pure fan service. These examples are some of her best outfits based on how good they look as well as how well they suit Nami’s character and the arc they appear in.
10Nami’s Return To Sabaody
A More Grown-Up Look
The Summit War Saga was one of the most important arcs in all ofOne Piece’s history. It ended with a two-year skip that saw everyone’s favorite private crew reuniting at the Sabaody Archipelago, some of them with exciting new looks.
The ever-fashion-conscious Nami had opted for a patterned green bikini top, low-riding jeans, and a new hairdo. Her short-haired look, which emphasized her youth, had been swapped for a long-haired, more grown-up style.Nami has changed a lot since Season 1and this look was designed to show the audience how much she’d grown up during the time skip. This being said, the outfit gets the bottom ranking here for two reasons. Firstly, it’s eye-catching for sure but pretty basic compared to some of her other outfits. Secondly, the way it focuses on Nami’s physique feels more than a little like fan service.
9Nami’s Water 7 Business Outfit
Subverted Expectations
Nami is said to be one of the smartest characters inOne Piecebut the show has a habit of focusing on her looks over her brains, which is what makes her outfit during the Water 7 arc so interesting. Throughout this arc, Nami sports a business executive look in a blue button-up shirt, tie, high-heeled sandals, and skirt (which is still pretty short).
Considering Nami’s love of money and the fact the arc starts with the Straw Hats being loaded following the Skypiea arc, Nami’s business attire matches the setting perfectly. Water 7 is one ofthe longest arcs in the anime, but Nami’s outfit here never gets old. At the same time, it might be a little too simple, which is the only reason it receives a low ranking. It matches the arc and subverts what fans expect from Nami’s wardrobe choices but is less stylish than her best outfits.
8Arlong Park Outfit
Nami In The Spotlight
One of the great things aboutOne Pieceand the Straw Hat Pirates is that, despite having such a large cast of characters, everyone gets their turn in the spotlight. Nami’s first big chance to shine came during the Arlong Park arc, which focused on fleshing out her backstory as well as setting up her freeing Cocoyashi village from the Arlong Pirates.
For this arc, Nami wears a cute green camisole sporting flower shapes, figure-hugging black pants, and high-heeled sandals. For a while, she also wears Luffy’s trademark straw hat, which she pulls off. It’s a basic look for Nami, but it does a good job of connecting to her childhood while not being too distracting. Most importantly, since it’s sleeveless, this is the first time fans got to see her Arlong tattoo for the first time. Nami appeared in the show early on, but it was during this arc she joined the crew and solidified some ofher strongest friendships. This outfit might not be the most exciting, but it allowed her character to shine.
7Whole Cake Island Formal Dress
Nami Got To Dress Up
Nami grew up in poverty but has developed a taste for the finer things in life as an adult. She loves high fashion, but being a pirate gives her precious few opportunities to dress up. The Whole Cake Island arc is evidence, though, that when she gets the chance to, she knocks it out of the park.
Nami has made a lot of bad decisions, but wearing this dress isn’t one of them. This red backless turtleneck dress was the perfect outfit for the wedding that took place during the arc. Combined with her hairstyle, it struck a great balance between sex appeal and class. It gets a slightly lower rank because it’s a little on the simple side compared to some of her other dresses, but nonetheless, it was a great pick for the Whole Cake Island wedding.
6The Dress From Zou
A National Treasure
One Piece can get pretty weird, even by anime standards, but the land of Zou takes the cake. The island is on the back of a giant elephant, and the people who live there are all pretty old-fashioned and have some odd customs. When Name befriends a Mink called Wanda, the two swap outfits, with Nami nabbing Wanda’s stunning dress.
The outfit in question is a sleeveless purple dress decorated with strands of pearls and an exquisite lace design. The whole thing made Nami look like a princess and perfectly matched her love of expensive objects and high-level fashion. No wonder the dress turned out to be a national treasure revered by the people of Zou. Many fans have a soft spot for the dress from Zou, and, while it is special, Nami has worn some even more impressive outfits.
5Nami’s Original Outfit
It’s A Classic
One Piece’s characters tend to change their looks a lot, but many fans remember them according to what they wore during their first appearances. In Nami’s case, it’s a striped white and blue t-shirt and a short yellow skirt. The outfit matched Nami’s pre-time skip personality perfectly and is considered a classic by many fans.
Nami’s past takes some explaining, but one look at this outfit, and most fans will know exactly what period it’s from. It’s a little plain compared to many of her later outfits, but it was also pretty cute. The outfit is also much less sexualized and fan service oriented than some of her other looks, which makes for a nice change of pace.
4The Enies Lobby Combo
Ready For Battle
Nami’s best outfits tend to fall into one of two camps. They either emphasize beauty and elegance over practicality or focus on practicality with just a touch of style. Her outfit from the Enies Lobby arc falls into the latter category. After defying the World Government, the Straw Hats adopted more rebellious-looking outfits, with Nami opting for a jean jacket and short skirt combo.
The outfit made Nami look like a total badass in an arc during which sheproved she wasn’t weak. It was revealing without feeling too much like fan service and made sense in the context of the arc. The Straw Hat Pirates weren’t messing around and Nami was dressed for business.
3Raid On Onigashima Devil Outfit
Dressed Like A Cosplayer
Cosplayers have been mimicking Nami’s look for quite a while, so it’s pretty ironic seeing Nami dressed like a cosplayer. While attempting to infiltrate the Beast Pirates, Nami and her friends dressed up as low-ranking members of the enemy crew. In Nami’s case, that meant wearing a purple boa, armored shoulder pads, and a string bikini that left very little to the imagination.
It might sound like a weird mix but Nami managed to pull it off. It packed her usual sex appeal and sense of flair while also hinting at her increasing power level. The outfit could have looked out of place on another character but suited Nami perfectly, showing she could pull off pretty much any look.
2The Wano Country Wardrobe
Traditional Japanese Aesthetic
ManyOne Piecefans consider the Wano arc to be one of the anime’s best. That’s partly because the entire arc and its setting feel like an ode to Eirchio Oda’s homeland. Upon arriving in Wano, the Straw Hats get new outfits to help them blend in with the island’s residents. These outfits are inspired by traditional Japanese dress.
Nami in particular gets some great outfits throughout this arc. The best is arguably the baby blue kimono and orange sash she wears early on in the arc. Her outfits in this arc are simple, stylish, and classy while being respectful of their inspiration. Nami shines in every scene she’s in, and her kimonos prove her outfits don’t have to be revealing to be appealing.
1The Alabasta Outfit
An Exotic Delight
Nami has sported a lot of great looks, which makes picking the best difficult. In the end, we opted for the outfit she wore during the stellar Alabasta arc. Much like her Wano outfit, her dress here was inspired by another real-world culture - Egypt.
This stunning, beautiful desert dress is based on classical Egyptian culture. The outfit doesn’t just look awesome; it speaks to Nami’s character too. Nami chooses to wear it because it connects her to her friend, Princess Nefeltari. It was also in this outfit that Nami got her first 1v1 fight, a major turning point for her. Overall, her outfit added to the arc’s sense of place and blended it perfectly with Nami’s surroundings while still featuring her usual sense of style. It’s not just her best outfit but easily one of the best outfits in the whole anime.
