Bakugo Katsuki sustained a fatal injury against Tomura Shigaraki inMy Hero Academiaduring the Final War. In an attempt to take down Shigaraki, Bakugo’s heart was crushed in a defensive attack by Shigaraki, which left him bleeding out on the battlefield.
Although Bakugo seemed worst for wear, an unlikely source was able to bring him back to life. However, although Edgeshot was the one to heal Bakugo, the technique he used came at the cost of his lifespan. So, will Edgeshot survive after using his ultimate move on Bakugo?
What happened to Bakugo Katsuki during the Final War?
Bakugo sustained a fatal wound during the battle; however, he was saved by Edgeshot
Oncethe Final War began, the various villains and League of Villains were separated from All For One and trapped in the Troy defense system. Once trapped, they were warped to another location wherethe Pro Heroeswere waiting. Unfortunately, Midoriya Izuku was also warped away afterHimiko Toga grabbed him with her whip.
Once Tomura Shigaraki and All For One were separated, the Pro Heroes put their plan into action. However, this plan required Midoriya Izuku, the wielder of One For All. As Shigaraki was trapped in the floating fortress surrounded by an electric barrier, and Aizawa and Monoma Neito used theErasure Quirk against Shigaraki, the Heroes within the fortress could do nothing but try to slow down Shigaraki.
Although Shigaraki could notuse his Decay Quirkor any of the Quirk All For One has stockpiled within him, he has taken advantage of theQuirk Singularity theory. This theory comes fromDr. Garaki, in which as a Quirk evolves, the body, too, must adapt with this Quirk. As a result, this will give birth to a new form. Shigaraki used this theory to sprout enormous growths from his body in the form of hands and fingers. He then used this to attack the Heroes within the fortress.
While the Heroes within the Fortress have tried their hardest to slow down Shigaraki, the growths was too much to take on, and thus, they were at a stalemate. In Chapter 358,Bakugo Katsukiused one of his ultimate moves,Howitzer Impact: Cluster Bomb, to slow down the main body. However, Shigaraki intercepted this attack and crushed his right arm, showcasing the colossal gap of raw power.
In addition to the power gap, Shigaraki shared a few choice words with Katsuki, knowing it would likely get under his skin. Bakugo has always felt inferior to Midoriya Izuku, and once again, seeing the power gap and being told he will always be in Midoriya’s shadow was enough to make Bakugo prove himself.
Bakugo once again surpassed his limits, moving faster than ever. Unfortunately, although Bakugo was able to catch Shigaraki off guard, Shigaraki crushed Bakugo’s heart during his attack.
Will Edgeshot survive after healing Bakugo Katsuki?
Edgeshot was reduced to a mere strand of what he previously was
Bakugo Katsuki was then presumed dead, as his heart was crushed during Shigaraki’s attack. At that time, all hope was lost, as the Heroes believed Katsuki would be unable to make it out alive. However, Kamihara Shinya, thePro Hero Edgeshot, declared that he would become Katsuki’s new heart in Chapter 364.
Edgeshot has the Foldabody Quirk, which allows the user to manipulate the thinness of their body, including stretching out their limbs into thin strands, folded or flat. The disadvantage of this Quirk is that it will weaken his lifespan when Edgeshot stretches his body out too thin.
To become Bakugo’s heart, Edgeshot used the techniqueNinpo: Thousand Sheet Pierce “Zenith.”This technique allows Edgeshot to stretch out his body to the maximum, and with it, Edgeshot could become as thin as a surgical suture. To prevent Bakugo’s wound from becoming infected, Edgeshot cleansed himself with a bubble given to him by the Pro Hero Bubble Wash.
Although Edgeshot was working diligently to close Bakugo’s wound, it was revealed thatBest Jeanist also sewed upBakugo’s heart. However, it was insufficient. Once Edgeshot was inside Bakugo’s body, he could assess the damage accrued during the battle with Shigaraki. Here, Edgeshot learned that along with Bakugo’s crushed heart, his lungs were also wounded.
Thanks to Edgeshot’s quick thinking, he quickly mended the wounds found from the inside and out and gave Bakugo CPR to ensure that his heart would not stop. Using the Zenith technique, Edgeshot kept Bakugo alive, and protecting them was Best Jeanist from any attack that Shigaraki may send their way. As mentioned previously, the drawback of stretching his body too thin would mean his life would also be in danger. As Edgeshot continues to use Zenith under those extreme conditions, his lifespan begins to fade away, as noted in Chapter 365.
It was finally in Chapter 403 that Bakugo Katsuki stood, alive and ready to continue the battle against Shigaraki andAll For One, much to the shock of Midoriya Izuku and Shigaraki, who previously believed he had crushed his heart. It was later revealed in Chapter 405 that Bakugo had been dying as Edgeshot used Zenith to repair his broken organs.
While using the Hakamada-style secret knotting, Edgeshot cut off his own body to separate himself from the sutures he made. In Chapter 405, Edgeshot revealed that he merely repaired Bakugo’s broken bones and bound things together. However, it was Bakugo’s awakenedExplosion Quirkthat brought him back to consciousness.
After saving Bakugo, Edgeshot was reduced to a tiny strand of body after using the Zenith technique. In Chapter 428, we finally see Edgeshot once more. After the Final War, Edgeshot survives using the technique Zenith. However, he still retains his tiny body, with some adjustments, such as tiny hands. Edgeshot reassures Bakugo that he is recovering just fine, and he plans to strive even further.
