Throughout the series,Shoto has been drowning in personalturmoil, trying to come to grips with his identity and mixed emotions with regard to his family. Rei Todoroki is Shoto’s mother, and she also plays avery important role within their family story. She was arranged for a quick marriage with Endeavor, which eventually drove her to a mental breakdown. The intense stress of child-rearing within an emotionally abusive environment took its toll on her, culminating in a tragic mistake where she accidentally burned Shoto. After this happened, Rei was institutionalized, driving another wedge into the family.
