Unfortunately, this is also where those who are less than ordinary slip through the cracks, are discriminated against, and are forgotten about. This prejudice of the failed society gave birth to Spinner and Shigaraki, who sought the destruction of false heroes and the society that failed them. Learn more about the friendship between these two.
How Did Spinner and Shigaraki Meet?
The League of Villains is where this friendship and admiration come to fruition
Iguchi Shuichi, otherwise known asSpinner, is a heteromorphwho later played a significant role in the Final War as one of the leaders of the Paranormal Liberation Front. As a heteromorph, Spinner has been discriminated against due to his mutant Quirk and thus has felt that the Hero Society has failed him.
As a previous shut-in, Spinner idolized the Hero Killer, known as Stain, and largely felt the need to follow in his footsteps after Stain had been imprisoned. Spinner initially joinedthe League of Villains, believing they would continue to follow Stain’s legacy by wiping out false Heroes. This is how Spinner learned Tomura Shigaraki, the leader of the League of Villains.
As Shigaraki had little knowledge of his true goal at the time aside from killing All Might, Spinner grew angry at his leader for notfollowing Stain’s legacy. Spinner had idolized Stain to the point of fashioning his clothing and battle gear to match that of Stain. However, as Spinner becomes more intertwined with the League of Villains, his affection for Stain’s ideology also fades.
However, at this time, Spinner remains with the League of Villains, as Shigaraki’s beliefs have been growing on him. Although Spinner stays with the League, he continues to scrutinize and question Shigaraki’s ability as their leader. It was only after thedefeat of Gigantomachiathat Spinner fully recognized Shigaraki as his leader and thus became a devoted follower.
Although contradictory, Shigaraki despisedAll Might, whom Stain idolizedas a true hero who has yet to be corrupted by society. While Spinner actively followed Stain’s ideology, he didn’t conform to the admiration of All Might, as he was failed by this Hero Society; he wished for its collapse.
As Spinner and Shigaraki have both been failed by this society, seeking its destruction over shared experiences has led them to this common goal. While Spinner merely wanted to rid the Hero Society of its false Heroes, his admiration for Shigaraki’s ambition led him to want the same.
How did Spinner and Shigaraki become true friends?
A failed society and a shared interest in video games were the cause
At one point, Spinner and Shigaraki sat down and spoke about their common hobbies, which include video games. This revealed that the two shared common interests aside from their dislike of the current society. This, in essence, is what caused the two to bond. As previously mentioned, Spinner had begun to see Shigaraki as a true leader and was in awe of his ambitions and accomplishments.
Although it could also be seen that Spinner only saw Shigaraki as a capable leader, with the ability to bring about the collapse of society and the falsities of Heroes, Spinner was also incredibly concerned for Shigaraki. Although the othervillains, like Mr. Compress, could note the change in Shigaraki’s personality whenAll For One took control of his body, Spinner showed more concern for him. Spinner deduced that the procedure on Shigaraki by All For One was doing more harm than good. However, although Spinner had concerns, he likely knew it was out of his power to prevent, so he decided to cease thinking in Chapter 427.
He was the first friend I ever had!!
This would later make Spinner regret his decision not to help Shigaraki sooner, as he was consumed by All For One. Spinner’s devotion towards his leader and friend led him to accept All For One’s invitation to give him more Quirks. Unfortunately, accepting multiple Quirks requires the user to have a body primed for the uptake. Spinner then lost his ability to reason but still wanted to do everything he could to help Shigaraki succeed.
Spinner was then arrested after freeing Kurogiri from his prison, where he remained after the Final War. Although Shigaraki was overtaken by All For One, in the depths of his consciousness, he only wanted to spare his remaining words for Spinner. After theFinal War, Midoriya Izukuconveyed Shigaraki’s final words.
Even to the bitter end, Shigaraki Tomura kept fighting to destroy.
Through Shigaraki’s accomplishments, Spinner began seeing him as his Hero and ray of hope. As the two connected over their dislike for society, their friendship grew closer. Overall, although Spinner was a devoted follower of Shigaraki, their bond turned into friendship, which inspired Spinner to write a book aboutShigaraki. To keep the Symbol of Fearalive and ensure no one forgot who and what Shigaraki Tomura fought for.
