MultiVersusseems quite committed to having some fun with its roster choices, as evidenced by Player First Games' choice to re-launch the platform fighter withAdventure Time’s Banana Guard. At the time, the pick ofplayable Banana Guard garnered some controversy, but since then, the character’s been embraced by the community as a goofy, lighthearted addition to the cast with plenty of humorous interactions.
And it seems the goofy character picks won’t stop there. ReliableMultiVersusleakers have shown evidence that the infamous Pickle Rick from theRick and Mortyepisode of the same name will be joining the game’s roster sooner rather than later. While nothing’s been confirmed by the devs, there’s a lot to break down from the leaks, including some future unannounced roster additions.
Pickle Rick May Be Coming To MultiVersus
Is Pickle Rick Going to Be a Skin for Rick in MultiVersus?
It’s no secret thatRick Sanchez has been inMultiVersussince beta, and most people would assume that his pickle form would just be a skin for the existing character. And that would be a perfectly reasonable assumption if not for the fact that a skin would not nearly be as funny as making Pickle Rick his own standalone fighter. This seems to be the case given the leaked files.
So far,MultiVersuscharacters have been tied to a numbered list in the code. All the Pickle Rick-related files are tied to a unique, yet-to-be-released, fighter on that list.If Pickle Rick was just a legendary skinfor the version of Rick currently in the game, one would assume these files would be tied to Rick’s pre-existing code on the list. The player model for Pickle Rick is also properly scaled; being more in proportion to a fighter like Gizmo than Rick’s normal size. Such a hitbox change wouldn’t be possible with a skin and would instead require a new character slot entirely.
As for how the character handles, Pickle Rick seems to play very similarly to the version of the character currently in the game. A leaked gameplay video from before the beta’s shutdown shows a player controlling Pickle Rick with a moveset matching regular Rick almost 1:1, just on a much smaller scale.
It’s important to note that these are unreleased files from the developers. Early in development, Gizmo and Stripe were listed in the character list as the same fighter. Development cycles change frequently and PFG may end up retooling the leaked Pickle Rick fighter as a simple Rick skin.
Pickle Rick Voicelines Leaked
Though his character model is already a pretty damning leak, the voicelines that have been coming out are on a whole other level. Pickle Rick’s leaked unique dialogue is all on YouTube, uploaded for all to listen to for more than ten full minutes. All of it has been recorded for the game byRick’s new voice actor Ian Cardoni, with direct references to other characters currently in the game and not in the game.
Most notable in these interactions are Pickle Rick’s dialogue aimed at the Powerpuff Girls andRWBY’s Ruby Rose. The Powerpuff Girls being referenced in the dialogue isn’t overly surprising asTownsville is already a stage inMultiVersusand other Cartoon Network alumni have already made it into the roster. References to Ruby Rose, however, are a lot more surprising, as that would mark the first appearance of anRWBYcharacter inMultiVersus.
There’s no telling exactly when Pickle Rick may come toMultiVersus, if at all. Dataminers from the beta found thatPickle Rick was a fairly finished character nearly two years ago. It could be Player First Games is waiting for an opportune moment to drop the character, or perhaps the studio decided to retool the character into a skin instead. Either way, it seems as if players will soon be able to turn themselves into a pickle in-game. It’ll be the funniest thing they’ve ever seen.
