Now that theKhaos Reignsexpansion forMortal Kombat 1is on the horizon, the months to come will periodically introduce new characters to the game.Mortal Kombat 1has some exciting characters planned for this second year’s DLC, and crossovers are at the forefront. This past year saw the addition of pop culture heavy-hitters like Homelander and Omni-Man, and the collaborations are showing no signs of slowing down.
Terminator 2’s T-1000 andScream’s Ghostface are some of the most excitingcharacters to be included inKhaos Reigns, but another great addition is Conan the Barbarian. The iconic comic book character has had his fair share of adaptations in pop culture, with one of the most notable being the 1982 film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, Conan is set to make hisMortal Kombat 1debut, but the skin may be better off taking inspiration from a different live action version.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Conan the Barbarian Skin May Need a Modern Makeover
Using Conan’s Most Recent Version
AlthoughArnold Schwarzenegger’s 80s roleas the titular barbarian is one of the more iconic versions of Conan, 2011’s film adaptation may be a better fit forMortal Kombat 1. The 80s movie is one of the more well-known depictions of the character, but Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Conan would be a better fit for the overall aesthetic ofMortal Kombat 1.
Arnold Schwarzenegger’s version of Conan may be more recognizable in pop culture, but unfortunately, the age of this particular depiction is really starting to show. The 80s version of Conan looks more corny than intimidating, which might clash with the more interesting character designs inMortal Kombat 1. However, there is still the very real possibility that a Jason Momoa version of the skin could be introduced as Conan’s unknown launch date draws closer. The future ofMortal Kombat 1promises new characters on the horizon, and unique skins for each character is nothing new to the fighting game.
There is currently no official launch date announced for Conan the Barbarian.
If Johnny Cage is able to get a Jean-Claude Van Damme skin, then having multiple versions of Conan is certainly doable. It would be surprising if the planned Conan skin had two different models, but it isn’t entirely impossible.Jason Momoa’s version of Conanmay have starred in a box office flop, but he is still the cooler version when it comes to overall appearance. The 80s depiction may hold the nostalgia factor, but the more modern take is a stronger character design.
Mortal Kombat 1’s Khaos Reigns is Making Way For New Characters
Despite the dated look, it is at least exciting to know that one will be able to play as Arnold Schwarzenegger in the future. However, the inclusion of the T-1000 also raises the question of why Schwarzenegger’s T-800 wasn’t included, like inMortal Kombat 11. Pitting the T-800 and the T-1000 against each other would have been a major draw. Ultimately,Mortal Kombat 1likely wanted to focus more on a diverse roster that featured a variety of nostalgic characters. Yes, the 80s version of Conan has aged out of looking cool, but he is still an iconic character that is exciting to see ina game likeMortal Kombat 1.
The corniness can actually be part of the charm, but an alternate version of Conan embracing Jason Momoa’s appearance is hopefully being considered as well. Ghostface is just as random of a character choice, butthe varied rosterKhaos Reignsbringsoffers something exciting for different players. When Conan finally becomes available inMortal Kombat 1, it will be exciting to see how his mechanics work, no matter what his appearance is.
