Mortal Kombat 1has revealed Ghostface’s fatality in a recent trailer ahead of the character’s release. Since Warner Bros. acquiredMortal Kombat, the franchise has showcased many film IPs owned by the media giant. Starting with the soft reboot ofMortal Kombatin 2011, players have seen the likes of Homelander, Leatherface, the Xenomorph, and several other DLC characters in recent games, withMortal Kombat 1promising to introduce even more.
On September 24, the Khaos Reigns DLC will introducethree additional characters toMortal Kombat 1: Sektor, Cyrax, and Noob Saibot. Another three will be released at a later date, including Ghostface, the T-1000, and Conan the Barbarian. NetherRealm Studios has released a few trailers teasing the characters but only recently showed off Ghostface in action.
On September 18, NetherRealm Studios released a trailer for the upcoming launch of the newMortal Kombat 1DLC, giving players their first look at Ghostface’s fatality near the end. The finisher showcases the character’s horror roots, including his reflection in the opponent’s eyes as he approaches for the kill. Ghostface first appeared in the1996 horror classicScream, which many still believe holds up as one of the best horror movies of all time. The franchise has seen several sequels, each with its own twists and different characters taking up the cloak and mask. The most recent movie came out in 2023 and was met with largely positive reviews.

The Khaos Reigns DLC also brings backanimalities inMortal Kombat 1, a feature that has been absent from the series since its 1995 debut inMortal Kombat 3. Animalities allow characters to transform into beasts to completely eviscerate their opponents as a special sort of fatality. This feature will be free to all players who ownMortal Kombat 1when the DLC launches later in September.
Mortal Kombathas showcased numerous Warner Bros. movie IPs by including guest characters such as the Terminator, Freddy Kruger fromNightmare on Elm Street, The Joker, and Spawn in the past. The fighting game franchise has had a few movies of its own following the original 1995Mortal Kombatmovie, with a sequel following in 1997. Warner Bros. also gave audiences a fresh take on theMortal Kombatfilm universe with a new release in 2021. The company is expected to release itssequel to theMortal Kombatmoviein October 2025.
