Summary
One ofMonster Hunter Wilds' best features is its overhaul ofMonster Hunter: World’s SOS Flares. InMonster Hunter: World, players could use SOS Flares to summon other players to assist them in their expedition. Unfortunately, the whole system ended up nearly obsolete after a while, as it would either take a very long time for players to join the expedition, or they would never join at all.Monster Hunter WildstakesMH: World’s SOS Flares up a notch by allowing players to summon Support Hunter NPCs rather than waiting for players to join them.
Monster Hunter Wilds' hammer-wielding Hunter Olivia and her Palico Athos are already confirmed to be a Support Hunter team in the game. As long as players have their co-op settings on “Support Hunter,” when they use an SOS Flare, Olivia will join the fray and assist them in battle. While it’s nice to know there is always someone readily available to help inMonster Hunter Wilds, the idea of that Hunter only ever being Olivia makes the whole system sound a tad underwhelming. However, ifMonster Hunter Wildswere to adoptDragon’s Dogma 2’s approach to Pawns, it would add a degree of variety theSupport Hunter systemarguably needs.
Monster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunters Should Emulate Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawns
Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawns Are Fully Customizable and Recruitable by Other Players
Like its predecessor,Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn systemis one of its most defining features. With the Pawn system, players can create and customize the appearance and vocation of their very own companion character to assist them in battle and exploration. As players venture out intoDragon’s Dogma 2’s open world, their Pawns will then help them in combat and even act as a guide during exploration. Additionally, players can recruit Pawns made by other players to fill out their team. Given thatDragon’s Dogma 2andMonster Hunter Wildsare both Capcom games, perhaps the latter’s Support Hunter system would do well to emulate the former’s Pawn system.

Monster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter System Should Offer Features Like Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn System
Monster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter system already looks like one of its best features, but it could still be improved in a few ways by taking a cue fromDragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn system. That notion makes even more sense considering how similar the two systems are, and the fact that they both belong toCapcom games. In other words, the nuts and bolts that runDragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn system are already there, they would just need to be adjusted to fitMonster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter system.
Much like they can with their Pawns' appearance and vocation inDragon’s Dogma 2, perhaps players could customize the appearance and gear of their Support Hunter inMonster Hunter Wilds. Based on what has been confirmed so far, Olivia’s gear and appearance are locked in, meaning players taking advantage of the Support Hunter feature will only ever benefit from the same type of assistance over and over. However, if players were able to equip their Support Hunter with aHunting Horn, for example, it could provide support with various buffs in addition to attacking enemies.
Another thing aboutDragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn System thatMonster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter system should consider imitating is the opportunity it provides players to recruit other player-made Pawns. Implementing this intoMonster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter system would allow players to recruit other player-made Support Hunters that might have stronger gear than their own. All of this said, even ifMonster Hunter Wilds' Support Hunter system doesn’t look anything likeDragon’s Dogma 2’s Pawn system, it’s still a welcome addition to the game afterMonster Hunter: World’s SOS Flaresfell short. However, asMonster Hunter Wildscontinues to prove itself a monster of innovation, perhaps a feature like this could happen.
