Wonder Womanhas been radio silent for longer than anticipated and without any new official details about the game shared by Monolith it’s uncertain when more can be anticipated. In the meantime, several early presumptions can be made considering it will be inseparably housed within the larger DC mythology. If Monolith has taken the time to craft a whole new canon forWonder Womana la the Arkhamverse’sArkhamgames, for instance, it could center on Princess Diana exclusively for now and disregard other popular superheroes while it fashions a franchise for the Themysciran.

Rather, if Monolith wants, it could choose to immediately plungeWonder Womaninto an original canon where she’s already embedded in a world full of DC characters and potentially even has a role in a Justice League. The way that Rocksteady decided to introduce the Arkhamverse’s Justice League was incredibly abrupt and unsatisfying because they went from existing ambiguously at best to suddenly being literal fixtures in the architecture of Metropolis and being killed all within the same game. To avoid anything like this,Wonder Womanneeds to take its sweet time with cameos and the like.

Wonder Woman Shouldn’t Risk Cameos Too Early

Easter eggs referencing other corners of the DC mythology are seemingly inevitable inWonder Woman, but any legitimate cameo of a character needs to be carefully considered because any character appearance might take too much attention away from the game’s titular protagonist and Wonder Woman deserves as much attention as any other character. Indeed, Wonder Woman has yet to receive her own game whileBatman has monopolized DC’s gaming sphere for decadesand Monolith has a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to correct that with a standalone game.

It’s unlikely that a character like Black Canary or Martian Manhunter will ever lead their own solo game, and while a Wonder Woman game is finally in development it still seems like an anomaly that players are being somehow blessed with. To have this chance and squander it would be completely detrimental to the character and her likelihood of ever getting another.

Therefore,if Monolith eclipses Wonder Woman with appearances of characters like Batman or Supermanit could be far more damning and negatively impactful than a superficial cameo may otherwise be in any other game. A B-tier cameo could be fine alongside any number of environmental Easter eggs and an A-list cameo wouldn’t be as hurtful in a hypothetical sequel toWonder Womansince a franchise would already be established for her to thrive on her own, though, so Monolith biding its time would be for the best if it feels compelled to have cameos at all.

A New Batman Might Only Incite a Demand for Another Standalone Game

Without a sliver of a doubt, a Batman cameo would be the most significant yet egregious forWonder Womanto include. Batman has been paraded as DC’s figurehead and definitely outdoes Superman in video games, so having him inWonder Womanwould make him the game’s main talking point thereafter.

Monolith’s work on theMiddle-earthseries included a freeflow combat system of its own due toShadow of Mordorinitially being a tie-in ‘Nolanverse’ Batman adaptationof some kind, and that knowledge married to a Batman cameo inWonder Womanwould feed into speculation about Monolith potentially developing a Batman game in the future.

Of course, there’s a realm of possibility where cameos actuallyreinforceWonder Woman’s lorewithout stripping its focus from Diana. Unfortunately, glamorous cameos have become one of the trendiest tropes in franchise media and often outweigh anything else occurring around them, for better or for worse. This discourse would inevitably take away fromWonder Womanitself and perfectly illustrates what perilous waters Monolith could be sailing into if it decides to make a priority out of fan-requested appearances instead of exclusively fleshing out the game’s titular protagonist.
