Midnight Society Denies Dr Disrespect’s Return
Mere months after the controversy exploded, Dr Disrespect has been streaming again and trying to appeal his suspension from the YouTube Partner Program. In a recent stream,Dr Disrespect claimed that he plans to return to Midnight Society, which was why he hadn’t removed the AAA studio’s tag from his bio. However, aspokesperson for Midnight Society told Decryptthatthe statement was a “baseless claim,“further emphasizing that the company amicably parted ways with Dr Disrespect.
“We amicably parted ways with Dr Disrespect, and will always be appreciative of his contributions to the studio.”
What Are Midnight Society’s Plans After Terminating Dr Disrespect?
As of writing, Dr Disrespect has not responded to Midnight Society’s denial, and still has the studio tagged in his Instagram bio. Despite the recent controversy, Midnight Society’s spokesperson said that the studio is currently focused on releasingDeadrop, a free-to-play vertical extraction shooter, in 2025.Deadropwas originally slated for release this year, but was delayed after the studio facedseveral layoffs following the Dr Disrespect drama, which reportedly included 50% of the development team.
Midnight Society also previously received backlashafter gamers found out thatDeadropused NFTs for its Founders Pass, which is a $50 package that gives players access to one-of-a-kind cosmetics and early access to game builds. Many people see NFTs as scams because they are allegedly being used to raise the capital of cryptocurrency, and because the energy used to generate them could be detrimental to the environment.
