All the bestStar Warsstories begin with an unlikely hero, andLEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxyis no different. The four-part Disney+ mini-series centers on Sig Greebling, a young nerf herder who is obsessed with tales of the Jedi, the Sith, and the Force. Sig quickly finds himself becoming an unlikely hero once his galaxy plunges into turmoil, setting in motion events that will change his life forever. The story begins long after the events of the Saga’s three trilogies, but the unpredictable nature of the show’s premise means thatLEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy’s place on the overall timeline matters little in the grand scheme of things.
Game Rant spoke withStranger Thingsstar Gaten Matarazzo, Sig Greebling’s voice actor, to discuss the show’s setting, as well as gain insight into the type of hero Sig could be. Matarazzo explained how he sees a lot of himself in Sig, and how the show allows for some unique possibilities thanks to Sig dislodging an artifact called the Cornerstone (which, in a neat twist, turns out to be a LEGO brick), causing the galaxy to change dramatically.
Gaten Matarazzo Has Plenty in Common With Sig Greebling
What Sig initially lacks in Jedi powers, he makes up for in heart, and love for his family and friends. He spends plenty of time with his friends, boring them with the same old stories of Jedi, theFirst Order, and the Galactic Empire.
Adventures that they’ve heard from him many times before about theStar Warsuniverse. At this point in the timeline, these stories have become almost mythological, and Matarazzo explains that Sig could actually be compared to a hugeStar Warsfan in the real world:
‘‘He’s basically aStar Warsfan in theStar Warsuniverse. He sits around the campfire and tells the stories of Anakin, Luke, and Rey, and all of his friends are like, ‘Yes, we know,’ ‘Yes, we get it.’ I guess, in context, he would be like a history nerd or a mythology nerd.’’
Sig quickly finds himself in the middle of his ownStar Warsadventure, and along the way, he even gets to interact with some of the series' best-loved characters, such asLuke Skywalker, with Mark Hamill reprising his role.
Matarazzo is all too aware of how passionate theStar Warsfan base is and, at a time when recent projects have proved divisive among fans, he was quick to dismiss the notion that this new show could be taken too seriously:
‘‘I think if anybody is to look at this show and go down the normal YouTubeStar Warsrabbit holes, that’s just funny to me. It ain’t that deep. This is just like a bit of nerdy fun. We’re here to enjoy it and find that same joy we had when we first started watchingStar Warsas a kid."
With concepts such as a Sith Jar Jar Binks, a swamp version of Tatooine, and the X-Tie Fighter, a mash-up of the Rebellion’s X-Wing with the Empire’s Tie Fighter,LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxycertainly gives fans a fresh perspective on characters and settings they are usually familiar with. Plenty ofLEGO Star Warsprojects have been well-received in the past, withLEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Sagabeing lauded as among the bestStar Warsgamesin recent times, and Matarazzo is confident this show will prove to be a hit with fans.
