This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Chapter 269.
Summary
Hiromi Higuruma is a very intriguing character who was introduced to the fans inJJK’sCulling Game segment of the story. Higuruma is among the many sorcerers who received a cursed technique following the beginning of Kenjaku’s plans for the Culling Game. Among all the sorcerers, he was the one to be one with the most potential, as Kenjaku was certainly keeping an eye on him.
In the Shinjuku Showdown arc, he eventually came up against Sukuna, the King of Curses, and while he certainly did impress greatly, Higuruma ended up falling in battle. He was struck down by the World Splitting Dismantle, which essentially confirmed to many fans that he had died. Now, surprisingly, inJJKchapter 269, it was revealed that Higuruma had actually managed to survive somehow, which many fans can’t make much sense of.
Hiromi Higuruma’s Fall In Shinjuku Showdown
Hiromi Higuruma joined the battlefield against Sukuna immediately after the fall of Gojo Satoru. This was a very smart move by him, and his plan was to expand his domain immediately upon entering the battlefield, which, as fans know, is a non-lethal domain. Using the powerful domain expansion called Deadly Sentencing, his plan was to get Sukuna to be convicted for the many crimes that he had committed, and essentially get a death sentence for him. His next job would then be to execute Sukuna, and, essentially, end the battle for good. It is safe to say that he certainly succeeded in getting the death penalty for Sukuna. He also managed to confiscate Kamutoke, his cursed tool. With the Executioner’s Sword in his hand, Higuruma could easily have ended the battle if he struck Sukuna with it. However, actually doing that was incredibly difficult for him. Sukuna was able to deal with him effectively and easily demolished him in battle. Needless to say, Higuruma was not even able to land a single blow on him following the acquisition of Executioner’s Sword, which was truly sad.
I leave the rest to you, Yuji! – Higuruma
Regardless, he was still able to get the praise of the King of Curses. This is because he was recognized as a gem with the same potential as Gojo Satoru. This doesn’t surprise any fan, given that he was able to manifest and learn a powerful cursed technique in no time, and reverse engineer barrier techniques in order to create a domain expansion as well. He was truly a genius from the get-go, and, if that wasn’t enough, in the battle against Sukuna, he showcased the power to utilize reverse cursed technique out of absolutely nowhere. On top of all that, to counter Sukuna’s very own powers, he manifested domain amplification, which prevented him from dying in a single blow.Sukuna himself was utterly stunnedat how magnificent his growth rate was, but, despite all that, he utilized his powerful World Splitting Dismantle to chop him down and essentially kill him.
This world splitting dismantle, as fans know, is deadly, and can take down anyone in a single shot. That is precisely what happened with Higuruma, who then entrusted the Executioner’s Sword to Yuji.
Higuruma Returns After The War
Hiromi Higuruma Returned To The Side Of The Sorcerers
At the end of his fight against Sukuna, Higuruma entrusted the Executioner’s Sword, and with that, the future of Jujutsu Society as a whole, to Yuji Itadori. It felt to the fans that Higuruma essentially died on the battlefield. However, an explicit confirmation was never given to the fans. His body was quickly retrieved by Ui Ui, and taken to Shoko. Together with help from Nitta, Shoko healed Higuruma as well as she possibly could, which might have resulted in his survival.
Sukuna was just toying with me. I’d be dead if Yuta joined the battle.– Sukuna
Eventually, fans got to see Higuruma again in JJK chapter 269. Out of absolutely nowhere, he made his appearance, and the only injury that he seems to be carrying is on his arm, which is currently in a sling. Higuruma’s return shocked fans greatly, because most of them thought that he had died. This is because he was struck downby the same attack that took down Gojo, which is, the World Splitting Dismantle. Any person being struck down by this technique cannot possibly survive, especially if the attack chops right through them. But, Higuruma is proof of the fact that miracles can exist.
With Yuta, Higuruma is the second character who fans have now seen survive Sukuna’s World Splitting Dismantle, and this also gives them hope about Gojo surviving this technique as well. Hopefully, fans will find out more about that in the upcoming two chapters, as JJK finally wraps up.
How Did Higuruma Survive?
Higuruma’s Potential Allowed Him To Live Following His Fight Against Sukuna
The question of how Higuruma survived is certainly very intriguing, and one that only the author can answer properly. However, based on whatever little information was present in the story, it appears that the key to saving Higuruma lay in the fact that he was transported quickly through Ui Ui’s technique. He was taken to Shoko quickly, who most likely did what she could to patch him up. Of course, Nitta could have helped as well, which makes things better for him. At the end of the day, what ended up saving him truly was his very own genius. Fans know for a fact that Higuruma was a user of reverse cursed technique as well. His growth potential was compared by Sukuna to Gojo. Any sorcererwho can be compared to Gojocannot die easily. It is highly likely that after Shoko used some reverse cursed technique to patch him up, he utilized his very own powers, and healed properly.
In the process, he ended up surviving. Clearly, Kusakabe was shocked to see Higuruma survive Sukuna’s World Splitting Dismantle in JJK chapter 269, especially since he has had cursed energy for just 2 months now. The fact is that he is truly a genius and fans saw howGojo did something similar after his battleagainst Toji. Now is the time for Higuruma to showcase that he truly can live up to the label that the author put on him, and prove that his survival aids the story in some way.
At the same time, fans also know that the author simply wanted him alive. If the author willed it, Higuruma would have already died. However, it is clear to the fans that the author needed him for something greater, which is why he is alive and breathing.
WhetherHiguruma has some bigger purpose to serve laterdown the line in the last two chapters of JJK, or any potential sequel that fans get later down the line, remains to be seen. For now, fans can simply sit back and celebrate Higuruma’s survival, and hope that this leads to something much bigger in the story moving forward.
