Sukuna’s Desperate Attempt To Cling To Life

The beginning of the chapter gave fans a major shock in Jujutsu Kaisen 268. This is simply because right at the beginning, fans saw Sukuna conversing with Megumi, which many readers did not expect. Most fans had assumed that Yuji’s battle against the King of Curses would continue for a bit longer, even if it did end in the same chapter. The blow that fans saw inJJKchapter 267 was assumed by most fans to be the penultimate one, because it lacked in intensity, severity, and at the same time, just wasn’t in the climactic finish that fans had hoped for it to be. That is precisely whyJJKchapter 268 was such a major shock to the fans. Essentially, at the beginning of the chapter, Sukuna tried desperately to cling to Megumi.

In a moment of exchange between the two souls of these characters, fans could see Sukuna tell Megumi that he was a disgrace for falling so low and having destroyed any chance at living a prideful life. He let himself get taken over by the King of Curses, murdered his own sister, his own sensei, and at the same time, saved Yuji, who went on to indiscriminately massacre thousands of people. This was a clear sign that Sukuna was trying to manipulate Megumi, break his will, and take over his body. However, Megumi clearly caught on to what Sukuna was up to, and told him that it wouldn’t work. He wanted to give living one more shot, especially because Yuji made such a massive effort to save him.

Megumi essentially told Sukuna that he would have only one finger left behind, and that wouldn’t be enough to sustain his soul. Megumi was essentially pushing him out right here, and it did not bode well for him at all. Sukuna was only desperately trying to cling to Megumi so that he could fight back, but it was a failed attempt. At the end of things,Sukuna was ripped from Megumi’s body successfully, and Yuji accomplished what was deemed impossible.

Unfortunately, it didn’t happen the way fans wanted it to, and was largely anti-climactic. There are many reasons as to why this ended the way it did. And, it can be safely assumed that Gege’s deteriorating health was also one of the biggest reasons. However, at the end of the day, there were many chapters that simply didn’t need to be in the story, and many repetitive situations in Shinjuku Showdown over and over again. Sadly, what fans can say is that Yuji versus Sukuna was an underwhelming battle that failed to live up to the standard set by Sukuna versus Gojo. Despite everything, the battle ended in the favor of Yuji, and while that is great, the end was not how fans had expected it to be.

The End Of Ryomen Sukuna Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 268

Yuji Looked Down Upon Sukuna As He Disintegrated

Ryomen Sukuna finally fell in JJKchapter 268. This was a major surprise to the fans, not because it shouldn’t have happened, but because of the way it happened. Sukuna was left behind in a pathetic slimy mess after Yuji delivered the final black flash to him. After being separated from Megumi by Yuji, Sukuna was seen cowering in fear. For the very first time, he felt fear inside him. He was profusely sweating at seeing Yuji looking down on him, and this was a nice call back to the very beginning of the story, where Sukuna told him to not look up to him.

Now, it was Yuji looking down on him, and the parallel certainly was very nice for the fans to enjoy. At the same time, Sukuna tried desperately to cling to something, but he knew that he was at the end of his life.

Yuji, however, was not ready to give up on him. At the end of the day, Yuji is an individual filled with compassion, even for people like Sukuna. Yuji knew that curses are not meant to be eradicated but to be lived alongside, and, of course, this idea might not be the brightest, but it is the approach that he ended up taking in the end. Yuji tried desperately to plead with Sukuna to return to him and live alongside him, giving humanity a try for once. But, Sukuna stayed trueto his title of the King of Cursesand told Yuji that he commends him on being able to uphold the farce right until the very end. Sukuna warned him to not look down on him since he is a curse after all, and essentially disintegrated.

Don’t look down on me…I am a curse!! – Ryomen Sukuna

At the same time, fans also got to see Hakari versus Uraume and this fight was the biggest disappointment from all of Shinjuku Showdown. Fans did not even get to see a significant panel in this battle. Hakari versus Uraume ended without fans even getting to see a proper exchange. After seeing Sukuna fall, Uraume simply gave up and ended their life, disintegrating into bits of ice. That is how Jujutsu Kaisen’s Shinjuku Showdown Arc ended, and fans were left with mixed feelings. Although it was nice to see Megumi and Nobara return, the actual ending of the Arc, that is, the battle between Sukuna and Yuji, was largely underwhelming, as were all the smaller battles in the arc.

The Three Main Characters Reunite Once Again

JJKchapter 268 also gave fans a glimpse of the post-war events. Simply put,Megumi finally woke upand the three were together once again after a very long time. Nobara talked about how they should be surprised and crying tears of joy after seeing her return, while Megumi was simply in disbelief at what happened.

Fans also got to see two letters from Gojo for Nobara and Megumi, and, in each case, it was to inform them about key bits of information about their lives. For Nobara, it was the whereabouts of her mother, along with information on what she does. For Megumi, it was information about his father, who he killed, and with that, he fulfilled his promise.

This, once again, conflates with what Gojo said when he died. In JJK chapter 236, Gojo clearly regretted the fact that he did not tell Megumi about his father and gave the responsibility to Shoko. Here, it was revealed that he had actually planned to give a letter to Shoko to give to Megumi, which then conflicts with what was set up previously in the manga. Regardless, it was certainly a nice moment, and now, the focus needs to be turned toother contenders in Shinjuku, such as Yuta, whose fate remains unknown.

Jujutsu Kaisen is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and theManga Plusapp. The release date for the next chapter of JJK, Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269, is set to be June 07, 2025.
