As a fan of ‘90shorrormovies in particular, I’m looking forward to seeing the upcomingI Know What You Did Last Summersequel. Ever since it was announced in February 2023, I’ve wonderedif any legacy actors are coming backand how the franchise is going to continue its unforgettable and eerie story.
Now thatDeadlinereported thatFreddie Prinze Jr. will star in theI Know What You Did Last Summersequel, I have ideas about what his character arc should look like. Since it’s been several decades since the original was released in 1997, the sequel will have to explain a lot about what Ray Bronson’s life has been like, and I’m excited to see him.
What I Want To Happen To Freddie Prinze Jr.’s Character In The I Know What You Did Last Summer Sequel
I think Freddie Prinze Jr.‘sI Know What You Did Last Summercharacter, Ray Bronson, should be married to Julie James and they should be raising a family.While this would be similar toSidney Prescott’s story inScream 7since she’s now a parent, this plotline would prove that a lot of time has passed since the 1997 original.
It would also be important for Ray and Julie to be parents now since theAmazon Prime Video adaptation was so lackluster. Instead of making a reboot that only focuses on new teenage characters going through the same thing that Ray and Julie and their friends once did, it’s a good idea to feature characters of various ages.
This seems to be the approach that Sony is taking. According toDeadline,the sequel wants to follow in the footsteps ofScreamwith a “passing of the torch” story with legacy cast members and newer actors. This could mean thatone or two of thenew characters are Julie and Ray’s children, which would be a great idea. This trope is used in TV reboots, for better or for worse, but it would work well here.
I thinkI Know What You Did Last Summeris afun ’90s horror movie to watch todaybecause of the dramatic characters, storyline about how time changes friendships, and the eerie premise. It would be interesting to see the sequel examine how the trauma has affected Ray and Julie. It’s likely brought them closer and allowed them to move on with their lives… along, of course, now their past is haunting them once again. I want to see Ray act more maturely than he did in his previous two movies, but since he’s grown up now, that will likely happen. Ray also has a tendency to be overprotective toward Julie which feels creepy, so if he has given her some more space, I’ll be happy with the legacy sequel.
Prinze Jr. was excited about possibly playing Ray again in the horror sequel. He said he was “motivated” in an interview withUs Weekly. He also said:
“Nothing’s a lock until there’s ink on paper, until the contract’s signed, but I’m definitely talking to them. And if we can make everything work — and I know they wanna make everything work, I know I wanna make everything work — then we’ll try and make it work. But we gotta ensure everyone’s schedules fit.”

Freddie Prinze Jr.‘sI Know What You Did Last Summercharacter Ray Bronson is mostly shown as Julie James’s boyfriend.Ray also works as a fisherman in Southport. This is an important part of his character arc since it’s one reason why he and Julie can’t make their relationship work after the initial events of the original 1997 movie. There is a memorable fight scene when Julie comes back for the summer one year after the tragedy. When she asks if they can have fun again. Ray says:
“I have to work, Julie! My boat’s in Southport, remember? But, hey, it’s cool. You need your space from Croaker Land and… probably from me, too.”
In the 1998 sequel,I Still Know What You Did Last Summer,Julie and Ray reunite when he finds her at the creepy resort in the Bahamaswheredull horror villain Ben Willis’s son Will Benson(Matthew Settle) is trying to kill them. The movie ends with Ben Willis having come back and pulling Julie under the bed where he has been hiding, which makes it unclear if Julie and Ray survive. Of course, since there’s going to be a legacy sequel ofI Know What You Did Last Summer, fans can be certain thatJulie and Ray are still alive.
