The playable survivors inRisk of Rain 2all have varying unlock conditions, and one of the riskiest ones to get is REX, an unconventional cyborg that uses its own health to power its destructive abilities. Getting this character isn’t that complicated, but without any prior knowledge, unlocking REX is going to take a while.
While this robot’s high risk, high reward playstyle keeps it from being thebest character inRisk of Rain 2, there’s no doubt that some players will be able to get a ton of fun out of REX’s kit. If you’re wondering how to get this character, here’s a guide showing you how.
How To Get REX In ROR 2
To unlock REX, players need to complete the Power Plant challenge, which is tobring the Fuel Array Equipment item and take it all the way to the broken robot in the Abyssal Depths, one of the possible fourth stages in the game. It’s a simple task that brings with it a fair bit of nuance.
How To Get (& Use) The Fuel Array
The Fuel Array is a free Equipment itemlocated on the back of your Escape Pod. It can only be obtained from Escape Pods; as such,ROR 2characters like Acridor False Son who do not start the game in one won’t be able to get it, unless they’re in a multiplayer game.
Players will have to carry the Fuel Array all the way to the Abyssal Depths andinsert it into the broken robot on the upper levels. However, apart from taking up your Equipment slot, the Fuel Arraywill explode if you fall below 50% health. When attempting to unlock REX inRisk of Rain 2, try to get items that will keep you safe from burst damage, such as Topaz Brooch, Tougher Times, and Safer Spaces. Hopoo Feathers can also save you from taking fall damage.
Where To Find The Broken Robot
REX itself is apart of the Abyssal Depth’s environment. you may find it onthe upper rock platforms in the middle of the map. Look for thebig flower bulb sticking out of the ground. If you’re having trouble finding the robot, try finding an Equipment Barrel and hope that you get a Radar Scanner. If you haveROR 2’sArtifact of Commandunlocked, you can pick it from the menu that appears.
Risk Of Rain 2 - REX Survivor Overview
REX is a ranged survivor that unleashes devastating attacks at the cost of its own health. Its kit introduced an extra layer of risk management (on top of the game’s existing scaling difficulty mechanic), and it rewards players who can carefully spend and restore their own health bars.
REX Abilities
Passive - Natural Toxins
Some of REX’s attacks inflict Weaken, reducing the movement speed and damage of affected enemies.
Primary Skill - DIRECTIVE: Inject
Fire 3 syringes; the last projectile inflicts Weaken and heals REX for 60% of the damage dealt.
Secondary Skill - DIRECTIVE: Drill
Rain down bullets over a target area for a short duration.
Fire a sonic boom that knocks back and Weakens enemies.
Utility Skill (Alt) - Bramble Volley
Fire a sonic boom that damages enemies and heals REX for every target hit. Costs 20% HP.
Special Skill - DIRECTIVE: Harvest
Fire a bolt that damages and debuffs enemies. Affected targets drop fruits that heal for 25% HP.
Special Skill (Alt) - Tangling Growth
Fire a flower that damages and roots enemies. Heals REX for every target hit, but costs 25% HP.
Similar toROR 2’srendition of Chef, REX can inflict up to two debuffs from his kit alone, making it a prime candidate for the Death Mark item. Healing items are also great for when you can’t get your own healing abilities to work.
