Given that players are taking on the role of Zelda for the first time inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, many fans wonder if there would still be anysword-based combatin the game. And while a majority of Zelda’s combat gameplay comes in the form of the new Echo mechanic, fans of Link will be happy to know his combat style is not entirely absent fromEchoes of Wisdom.

This special system allows Zelda to use powerful magic to essentially take on Link’s characteristics, albeit for a limited time. How to Get a Sword in Echoes of Wisdom

Aside from a short sequence at the start of the game, players will spend all their time with Zelda inEchoes of Wisdom.Luckily, those hoping toplaylike Link will not have to wait long.Swordfighter Formis unlocked early in “The Mysterious Rifts,“Echoes of Wisdom’s first major quest. After Link falls into a rift at the start of the game, he is not seen until Shadow Link appears out of nowhere to confront Zelda as she makes her way through theSuthorn Ruins dungeon.

Shadow Linkis a formidable foe for Zelda at this point in the game, relentlessly chasing her down with his sword and shield. However, Zelda should have multiple Echoes capable of either attacking or distracting Link. The goal here is to get Link to turn his back, allowing Zelda to throw items at his vulnerable side. Link’s shield will block just about anything in front of him. Once you defeat Link, you will see aMysterious Swordstuck in the ground. Picking theswordup will unlock it and introduce you toSwordfighter Form.

Swordfighter Form Explained:

WithSwordfighter Form,Zelda will gain temporary access to Link’s combat style by pressingUpon the D-Pad. She can swing theSword of Might, and even use Link’s spin move by holding down the attack button. Swordfighter Form also allows Zelda tojump higher, so keep that in mind when trying to reach high areas. This newSword Formis powered by anEnergy Bar.Zelda will encounter small blue bubbles that provide energy, so keep an eye out during your travels.

How to Upgrade Swordfighter Form in Echoes of Wisdom

Collect Might Crystals:

Zelda will be introduced to the upgrade mechanic at the end of “The Mysterious Rift.” After defeating theSeismic Talus,Tri will give Zeldafive unusual crystals.Zelda will not know how to use them at this point, but these turn out to beMight Crystals. This will be the crafting material that allows Zelda tolevel-up Swordfighter Form.

Might Crystalsare a common reward for defeating powerful bosses, completing side-quests, and exploration. Pursuing them is a worthwhile endeavor, especially if you want to extend Zelda’sEnergy BarandincreasetheSword of Might’s power. Early side-quests like “Finding the Flying Plant” and “Elusive Tumbleweed” reward Might Crystals. Zelda can also find them in treasure chests, so keep your eyes peeled.

Lueberry’s House:

After completing “The Mysterious Rifts,” and closing up the rift north of Suthorn Village, Zelda will encounter the real Minister Lefte. She will suggest the two of you visit the house that was revealed when the rift was closed. This home ends up belonging to Lueberry, Impa’s brother. Lueberry will introduce you to the upgrade system, which is powered by a machine in his home.

After speaking with Lueberry, and learning the specifics of upgrades, Zelda can interact with the large machine in the corner of Lueberry’s home. Lueberry will give Zelda two options for enhancement:

After the first upgrade for each item, the cost will increase. This is the basic upgrade structure inEchoes of Wisdom.

Aside from the Sword of Might, Zelda will gain a Bow and Bombs from Lueberry. These weapons can also be upgraded at his house. See the table below for upgrade costs:

The “Still Missing” main quest will become available after completingJabul WatersandGerudo Desert.
