AsHonkai: Star Rail’s roster of characters continues to grow, it’s also coming up with new ways to give avid players more chances at obtaining characters and Light Cones, especially limited 5-stars. Rerun banners have proven to be successful because they provide more options, and they usually complement the new character releases. Recently,Honkai: Star Railrevealed a new format that may change the game moving forward.
Honkai: Star RailVersion 2.5is debuting a new rerun banner system, where players choose one out of three 5-star units to be the featured character. This rerun banner will roll out in the first phase, and it will feature Kafka, Black Swan, and Robin, as well as their signature Light Cones. This new banner will also release alongside the new 5-star The Hunt character Feixiao.
Honkai: Star Rail May Find Success With This New Banner System
It’s pretty common forHonkai: Star Railand other HoYoverse games to release a character selector, but it’s usually for free 4-star units during limited-time events.Honkai: Star Railhas been commended in the past for its generous character distribution, even going so far as to give all players afree 5-star Dr. Ratiowhen he first launched.
Version 2.5 will be the first time thatHonkai: Star Railuses a selector format for the 5-star rerun banner. Not only will it give players more options and the freedom to choose which characters they want to prioritize, this also allowsHonkai: Star Railto rerun multiple characters at once. This would also lessen the waiting time for 5-star characters to return.
Rerun banners have also been profitable forHonkai: Star Railbecause gacha game enthusiasts are willing to spend money to pull for their preferred 5-stars. With this new format, they can easily choose which character they want to invest money on, especially if they’re collecting Eidolons to level up existing characters in their roster. Plus, ifHonkai: Star Rail’s success continues to grow because of this banner format, this could bepromising for other HoYoverse titles likeZenless Zone Zero.
Honkai: Star Rail’s New Format is Still a Temporary Feature
Unfortunately,Honkai: Star Rail’s new rerun banner systemwon’t be a recurring feature just yet. HoYoverse has noted that Version 2.5’s first rerun banner will be a special event for that phase alone, and that the second phase will only feature Topaz and Numby as the rerun character. It’s still unknown if the banner featuring three 5-star characters will return in future updates. However, it certainly could be beneficial to bring it back forHonkai: Star RailVersion 2.6 since Rappa is the sole new 5-star banner character for this update.
It’s also possible that HoYoverse might be testing the waters for the rerun banner inHonkai: Star RailVersion 2.5. If it’s received well, the developer might bring it back more often, or even make it a permanent format in the future. It might take a bit of time before this rerun banner becomes a recurring format forHonkai: Star Rail. Perhaps the game still needs to build up its 5-star roster more before committing to a new rerun banner. Meanwhile, HoYoverse is likely focused on buildingHonkai: Star Rail’s fourth major planetand its overarching story, which is planned for release in Version 3.0.
