Summary
Arc System Works has confirmed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch port ofGuilty Gear Strivewill have no crossplay support. 2021’sGuilty Gear Striveis one of Arc System Works' most popular fighting games, and it is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. This version of the game was announced at PAX West, and the developer confirmed it will be launching on May 15, 2025.
Guilty Gear Strivewas originally released for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S consoles. ManyStriveplayers have praised the game for its unique soundtrack, graphics, and lineup of characters that feature both fan-favorite veterans and several newcomers. Arc System Works is currently working onthe fourth season of DLC forGuilty Gear Strive, which includes returning characters like Queen Dizzy and Venom. While the Switch version ofStriveis set to offer almost everything that the other versions of the game had, such as the base game’s roster and the first three seasons of DLC, the one limitation it will have is no crossplay support.
This detail was confirmed by producer Ken Miyauchi on Twitter, simply stating thatthe Nintendo Switch version ofGuilty Gear Strivewill not support crossplay. Miyauchi does note that, while it won’t support crossplay with the other versions ofStrive, the Switch version does run on rollback netcode, meaning fans will have a relatively smooth gameplay experience online. He also notes that the footage used in the trailer for the Switch version of the game was captured by him personally.
Guilty Gear Strive Has No Crossplay on Switch
There are a lot offighting games on the Nintendo Switch, such asMortal Kombat 1,Fighting EX Layer, andMelty Blood: Type Lumina, that do support rollback netcode. However, while certain games likeSamurai ShodownandDragon Ball FighterZgot a rollback netcode patch post-launch, rollback wasn’t implemented for them on the Switch.
Cross-platform gaming is becoming normalized today, giving gamers the chance to play against each other regardless of which platform they’re on. Certain fighting games likePower Rangers: Battle for the Gridsupport crossplay and rollback netcode, being able to play between the PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game. WhileStrivealready has crossplay support between its existing console and PC versions, it’s likely the Switch version chose not to have crossplay to not compromise on the already existing experience. In the meantime, fans can also look forward to the fourth season ofStrive, which includesLucy fromCyberpunk: Edgerunnersas an unexpected guest fighter.
