Early into your adventure inGreedfall 2: The Dying World, you’ll find yourself investigating the Gold Mine near your village, as part of the quest “A New Evil.” This Gold Mine is a fairly linear dungeon with several one-way slopes that make it difficult to return to previous sections before completely exploring the main path. Still, a destructible wall eventually blocks the main path, requiring you to collect some explosives before you can finish your quest here or leave the mine.
However, obtaining said explosives is easier said than done inGreedfall 2. You’ll need to sneak into the restricted section of the mine to loot them from an irritatingly well-guarded chest. This will require you to move quickly and either take advantage of the game’s stealth system or run away as soon as you’ve opened the chest. This guide will break down the process, or you can check the video above to see how to do it.
How to Get to the Restricted Area of the Mine
To reach the Restricted Section of the Deep Tunnels, you’ll need to go pretty deep into the mines, down several one-way slopes, so make sure you’ve brought any healing items and other equipment you think you’ll need. You should also save at the entrance, just to be safe, though it shouldn’t be too hard to grab the explosives and make it back out.
After entering the Mine and getting the objective to free the trapped Miners, you’ll want to head down the ladder and over to the right, then up another ladder to reach a tunnel leading further in. Follow it until you reach an open area with some miners arguing. Loot the room and resolve the argument in whatever way works best for your playstyle, then head further into the tunnels via the opening to the east.
If you’re trying to complete the quest “The Missing Scales”, you can take a right turn halfway along this path to reach the cave where Vlann is. From here you can take an alternative path that drops you in the same room as the ladder that leads to the restricted area.
At the end of this tunnel, going straight ahead, you’ll find an open area with a ladder and a path heading northwest. Take this path to reach a crossroads with a rubble-blocked path and a ladder. To get the explosives needed to blast open the blocked path, you’ll need to head up the ladder and into the restricted area.
The next section is incredibly tricky and can easily get the whole party killed, so save before entering the restricted area.
How to Get the Explosives
Once you’ve reached the restricted area, things get a little trickier. You’ll need to reach the chest containing the explosives before any of the guards are alerted and combat starts. There are two chests,with the one directly ahead of you from the entrance requiring a successful Mechanics check to crack it open, but the one with the explosives is right in the middle of the restricted area.
You’ll want to hide near the top of the slope shown above and watch the guards, waiting for them to briefly leave the box unattended (don’t worry about the guard on the raised area looking right at it, they actually don’t have line of sight to the box somehow.) As soon as they start leaving the spot where the box is, sneak down to it, open it, loot everything with the Q key, and get out of there as fast as you’re able to. If you’re spotted and combat starts you won’t be able to interact with the chest or the climbable path that serves as your easiest escape route, so if you get spotted after getting the explosives you’ll have to run around the long way to escape.
Don’t bother fighting the guards, they’re tough and combat will end the second you leave the restricted area anyway. Get out of there and use your new explosives to free the Miners and open a path back to the entrance.
