Black Myth: Wukonghas been one of gaming’s biggest success stories in 2024, alreadysmashing records and milestoneswithin months of its release. This Chinese fantasy game puts players in the shoes The Destined One, a martial-arts monkey seeking to emulate the great Sun Wukong. While not exactly an open-world game,Black Myth: Wukongdoes feature several large, interconnected hub worlds for players to explore, complete with their own unique environments, enemies, andside quests.
Players won’t be given any quest markers or simplified guidance inBlack Myth: Wukong. Instead, side quests, and their rewards, can only be found by exploring and paying close attention to what is said in the game’s dialogue and cutscenes. When sought out, each side quest is well worth the effort, providing players with new locations, bosses, equipment, and plenty of valuable experience along the way.
8Three Bells
Key Rewards: Fireproof Mantle
The Three Bells side questis available duringChapter One, but it can only be completed once players have defeated the Whiteclad Noble at the end of Bamboo Grove. The quest will begin when players interact withany of three large bellsat either the Forest of Wolves (Outside the Forest) or the Bamboo Grove (Snake Trail/Marsh of the White Mist).
The first two bells are relatively easy to find, since players will come across them by following the main roads, but the third bell is hidden to the left of the Whiteclad Noble’s location. It is worth seeking out each of the three bells, as they lead to a hidden boss fight, a new location, and theFireproof Mantle, a Legendary vessel providing unparalleled Burn resistance.
7The Drunken Boar
Key Rewards: Wind Tamer Vessel
The Drunken Boaris a questline players are likely to come across inChapter Twowhile exploring Rockrest Flat in Fright Cliff. In addition to being quite humorous in a world that is largely fearsome and hostile, this quest will also provide players with a new area to explore: The Kingdom of Sahali.
Inside this new area, players can battle against both the Tiger Vanguard and Fuban, which are two of thebest boss fights in the game. This side quest is certainly worth going back to for players who are already on later chapters, since rewards like theWind Tamer Vesselwill make certain boss fights significantly easier.
6Treasure Hunter
Key Rewards: Spell Binder
The Treasure Hunter side questis available inChapter Threeby heading to the temple near the Bitter Lake Shrine. The quest involves saving a Treasure Hunter from being attacked by bats, as well as the discovery of several new Shrines and a boss fight to cap it off.
By following each step of the quest, players will eventually come face-to-face with the Green-Capped Martialist. Successfully defeating him rewards players with an ability calledSpell Binder, which allows Wukong to trade hismagical powers and transformationsfor increased Martial Arts skills.

As players progress throughChapter Threeand discover the Pagoda Realm, a side quest will become available in which Wukong is able to help a prisoner escape from captivity. The quest develops into being one of the best side-quests in the game, introducing severalnew unique areas and bosses.
FollowingThe Prisoner side questto completion will also reward players with theChu-Bai Spearhead, a unique material which can be used to craft theChu-Bai Spear, one of the strongest weapons in the game. Even if only for this reason, it is worth seeking out the quest and completing it.
4Venom Daoist
Key Rewards: Unlocks The Purple Cloud Mountain Area
The Venom Daoist side questis a two-part boss fight which players can find inChapter Fourby heading to the Pool of Shattered Jade. Much like theMan-In-Stone quest in Chapter 2, players will need to beat the Venom Daoist out of a cocoon to initiate the battle with him.
Once the Daoist has been defeated for the first time, head to the Temple of Yellow Flowers for the second fight. Once players have fully defeated the Venom Daoist, an entirely new secret area will be unlocked for them to explore:Purple Cloud Mountain.
3Proto Armourworm
Key Rewards: Elder Armourworm Spirit
The Proto Armourworm side questyields one of the most powerful rewards, but players will first need tocomplete the Chen Loong questlineinChapter Threeto unlock it. After reaching the Webbed Hollow in Chapter 4, players can find the Proto Armourworm Key and bring it back to Chen Loong.
Doing so will initiate a boss fight with the Proto Armourworm, and successfully defeating it will grant theElder Armourworm Spirit.The combined rewards of completing both questlines will ensure that players are ready take on any challenges in the final chapter of the game.
2Five Element Carts
Key Rewards: Unlocks The Bishui Cave Area
In one of the morecreative and psychedelicquests in the game, The Destined One will have to battle a range of decorated, sentient carts, each representing the five elements. To initiate theFive Element Carts side quest, speak with the Pale-Axe Stalwart after defeating him in the Woods of Ember.
In addition to providing several awesome boss fights and new locations within the Flaming Mountains, players will also gain increasingly better rewards from each cart they defeat, with the final cart yielding some exceptional items, including aFlame OrbandFine Gold Threadwhich is used to craft armour. It will alsounlock the Bishui Cave secret location.
1Four Loongs
Key Rewards: Golden Lining Transformation
The Four Loongsare four extremely powerful bosses throughout the game, which can be defeated to acquire some of thebest items in the game. To begin the quest, players will need to defeat the First Prince of Flowing Sands rat boss, which will open up the Secret Loong Cave and provide players with Loong Scales.
Once the Loong Scales have been acquired, players can then head to the waterfall in the Outside The Forest area of Chapter One and dispell it to face Red Loong. Black Loong is found near the Rockrest Keeper’s Shrine, while Cyan Loong is in the Turtle Island area. The final Loong, Yellow Loong, is found at the Relief of the Fallen Loong shrine. Defeating all four will unlock theGolden Lining Transformation.
