Summary

God of Warwas one of the most famous and surprisingly influential hack & slash franchises in the mid-2000s. The gameplay was simple compared toDevil May CryorBayonetta, though just as tricky to master thanks to its platforming challenges andepic encounters with creatures from Greek mythology. Even Sonic the Hedgehog tried emulating Kratos’ moves for the Werehog inSonic Unleashed.

However, by the 2010s, the series needed a revamp, and rather than try to reinvent the wheel like they did withGod of War: Ascension, they made a new wheel inGod of War (2018).Even after its grand finale,God of War Ragnarok, some prefer Kratos’ first journey around Midgard with his son, Atreus — particularly when its PC release allowsthese awesome weapon modsevery fan should try out.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- Spartan Viking Shield

Spoiler Warning: This list contains story spoilers from God of War (2018) and God of War Ragnarok.

7Spartan Viking Shield

Defense Comes In Norse & Spartan Style

Starting off simply, the shield doesn’t get as much attention inGod of War (2018)compared to Kratos’ other weapons, given it’s largely for defense and counter-attack. That doesn’t mean it can’t look good, though. Beasdfge’s Spartan Viking Shield mod gives it a nice face-lift with some Norse and Spartan design motifs.

The Viking shield comes with some nice ornate swirls, along with a glowing skull in the middle to distract from the understated skull designs at the end of its crosses. While the Spartan shield retains the red lambda symbol to represent his far-away home, the shield itself is changed from gold to black to help the lambda stand out, and it has glowing red designs surrounding a Greek warrior’s helmet in the center.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- Minecraft Diamond Axe

6Minecraft Diamond Axe

Crafting A Beat Down

Why get serious with weapon designs when one can get silly instead? WiththeMinecraftmovie on its way(for better or worse), fans might be in the mood to give Baldur a taste of the Diamond Axe’s blocky edge. If it can chop down trees fast, it can cut him and other enemies down to size.

Now, thanks to mod creator, HungrySharkz, players can do just that with their mod that replaces the Leviathan Axe withthe Diamond Axe. It’s only a cosmetic mod, so players will still have to upgrade it to make it more effective — but at least they don’t have to worry about breaking it after enough strikes.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- Blade of Olympus

5Blade Of Olympus

It Finished Off One God — It Can Finish Off Another

It took some old school fans a lot of time to warm up toGod of War (2018)’s new gameplay. Heading to the realms of Norse mythology was fine, though the over-the-shoulder, axe-flinging, boy-ordering controls were a far cry from the high-angle, blade-swinging, combo-heavy gameplay of the classic games. That can’t be changed, though they can bring back more old-school elements.

GustavoPredador and Zone-X Matt Marcos RC’s mod pack gives Kratos back his youth, making him look more like he did in the Greek games. It also replaces the Leviathan Axe withthe Blade of Olympus. Granted, it can look odd seeing Kratos throw it around like the Axe compared to how he used it inGoW 2, 3,andRagnarok. Still, it just looks right in young Kratos’ grasp.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- Ragnarok Weapons

4God Of War Ragnarok Weapons

Offers An Apocalyptic Beatdown

If players don’t want to look back on the past, they can look toward the future by replacing all of Kratos’ gear with his weapons fromGod of War Ragnarok. The Leviathan Axe and Blades of Chaos now take on their golden designs from their Level 9 upgrades in the Norse sequel and are still compatible with the different pommel upgrades.

Unlike Mjölnir, which players can now use via this mod. Thor’s hammer basicallyacts as the Axe, but without the pommel edits. As such, it lacks the additional frills and perks the Axe can get, but doing pommel-less runs in style is a worthy sacrifice to bring the hammer down on the Draugr, trolls, and Thor’s own dimbulb sons.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- Tyr’s Weapons

3Tyr’s Weapons

When One God Of War Trades Weapons With Another

In a neat turn of events,God of War Ragnarokhas an expansive and free DLC in which Tyr helps Kratos confront his past head-on in Valhalla. Part of it involves Tyr challenging Kratos in a series of tricky boss fights withunique weapons he picked upfrom his travels to other realms. On top of his trademark spear, he wields an Aztec macuahuitl, a Japanese katana, and an Egyptian khopesh.

Though, why should he be the only one to use them? With a little modding, players can swap out the Axe with any one ofTyr’s weapons. Some of them look a little odd, as the macuahuitl and spear were designed for Tyr’s massive frame. Others, like the katana and khopesh, fit the Ghost of Sparta just fine. Until he gets to go to Egypt or Japan himself, this mod will see Kratos wield these signature weapons just fine.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- GoW History Collection 1

2God Of War History Collection

When Kratos Can’t Let Go Of His Past

The Leviathan Axe has a bunch of mods that tweak it or replace it entirely. However, the most popular weapon for modsis his Blades of Chaos. They’ve been his trademark weapons since the first game. The Blades themselves received a number of facelifts over the course of the Greek saga, but they went back to their Chaos appearance for the reboot.

HungrySharkz’God of WarHistory Collectiongathers all these different designs together for fans to swap through. They can use the original Blades of Chaos from the firstGod of War, the Blades of Athena fromGod of War 2, the Blades of Exile fromGod of War 3, or use the Chaos design fromGod of War: Ascension.

God of War 2018 Weapon Mods- GoW History Collection 2

Only one of these mods can be used at a time, and any one of them is a neat blast from the past.

1God Of War History Collection 2

Bringing Hades On Earth To The Norse Realms

HungrySharkz’sGod of War History Collection 2throws in some familiar mods, like their own Blade of Olympus (based onGod of War 2 and 3) and young Kratos mods. But this time, it goes beyond the Blades of Chaos. It brings back the Nemesis Whip and Claws of Hades fromGod of War 3, complete with their glowing effects — albeit without their magic attacks.

It also throws in mods for the Axe, replacing it with the Blade of Artemis fromGod of War 1or the hefty Barbarian Hammer fromGod of War 2. The mod also includes the Fish Blades, which are basically two fish at the end of Kratos’ chains. It was a cut gag weapon forGod of War 1that would go well with hisCod of War armorto deliver piscine-based retribution on Midgard.
