While the majority ofFunko Fusionmay involve some lesser-known or more niche franchises, one of its worlds might be one of the biggest IPs around right now. From the minute the adventure starts, there are dozens of references and easter eggs associated with theJurassic Worldbrand. As players progress through the game, they even get to embark on a quest to save that very IP. And while its Funko-fied nature leads to a unique experience,Funko Fusion’s version of Jurassic World will no doubt draw some comparisons to Traveller’s Tales ownLEGO Jurassic World.
Released in 2015,LEGO Jurassic Worldfelt like the perfect thingfor fans of the franchise. Just like with most LEGO games, this title gave the films a LEGO facelift for an adventure unlike any other. For years, it served as the definitive way to explore these films. Yet, with the release ofFunko Fusion, players finally have another way to do just that. But even though the gameplay feels similar, these two titles seemingly deliver vastly differentJurassic Worldexperiences.
Funko Fusion and LEGO Jurassic World Tackle The IP Very Differently
Funko Fusion’s Jurassic Park Storyline is Extremely Different
One of the biggest things that setsthese twoJurassic Worldadaptationsapart is the story being told. InLEGO Jurassic World, players can explore the first four films fully recreated in classic LEGO form. Of course, some things have been altered to fit the LEGO formula, including making it more family-friendly and cutting back the story so that it fits within the five levels per movie framework. But, outside of that,Jurassic Worldfans are treated to a pretty fun and faithful adaptation.
Funko Fusion, on the other hand, is not really that faithful to the franchise’s story in the slightest. In this game,Freddy Funko’s nemesis Eddygoes through the multiverse to wreak havoc on all of these franchises.Jurassic Worldis one such franchise, and it is up to the player to stop him. Because of this, the story does not really share any similarities to the movie, outside of a few enemies, set pieces, and easter eggs. So, although it has theJurassic Worldname attached, fans will not really know what to expect here.
Funko Fusion’s Roster and World Offer a Unique Experience
The other major difference between the two games is the character roster andJurassic Worldrecreation that players can explore. InLEGO Jurassic World, players can play as over 100 different characters from across the franchise’s history, including dinosaurs. With those characters, they canexplore an open-world Isla Nublaror Isla Sorna, filled with collectibles waiting to be discovered. Plus, they are even able to create their very own custom character or dinosaur.
Funko Fusiondoes not offer an open world to explore or 100s of characters to play as. Instead, players access the game’s levels via aJurassic World-themed floor in the Factory and are only able to play as five different characters from the franchise. This may not sound like much, but unlikeLEGO Jurassic World,Funko Fusionhas over 20 franchisesthat it needs to juggle, withJurassic Worldonly being a small part of that. And, even if it is a different type of experience, it can still be a lot of fun for fans.
For diehardJurassic Worldfans,LEGO Jurassic Worldmay be exactly what they are looking for, as it lets them experience the majority of the franchise through the LEGO lens. But, for those who want a massive crossover that includes some of their favoriteJurassic Worldcharacters, thenFunko Fusionmay be what they are after. Or they can check out both and be engrossed in dinosaur mayhem for hours. Because at the end of the day, fans will likely love seeing their franchise shine, no matter the game.
