The overlap between collectors and gamers is a significant one. From filling out the Pokedex or acquiring platinum trophies to finding 999 Koroks, gamers love to collect. And few games have been built to appeal to collectors so strongly asFunko Fusion,an action-adventure game celebrating the world of the Funko POP figurine. Both those with extensive real-life Funko collections and those who have never owned a single POP will be able to appreciate the joy of gathering everything there is to find inFunko Fusion.

“Funko Fusionis a collector’s dream,” design director and head of publishing Arthur Parsons confidently told Game Rant. From He-Man and Colonel Sanders tothe crew ofBattlestar Galactica, over 60 characters from a wide variety of IPs will make an appearance in the game. WhileFunko Fusiondoes boast an original story centering around longtime franchise mascot Freddy Funko taking on his villainous counterpart, Eddy, Parsons and the team promise that the “collect ‘em all” appeal of Funko POPs is front and center.

Funko FusionHas Hidden Character Variations And More

Parsons explained that the team behindFunko Fusionare major POP collectors themselves, so they immediately knew this element was something they had to include in the game. He gave a tantalizing tease of hidden collector-focused content that he compared to “finding that chase character” or “getting that flocked variant” - or perhaps successfully catching aLegendary Pokemonor hitting a .01% chance to roll an SSR character in a gacha game.

“Not only can you unlock characters from all of the amazing IP in the game, you can also unlock secret hidden variants, as well as super-secret variants, like zombie versions… Some of the character variations are mind-blowing, and seeing the character select when all are unlocked in the game is an absolute delight.”

Parsons didn’t confirm the final number of characters and variations available to collect inFunko Fusion, but it seems like it will be quite high. And it’s not just the characters - he revealed that there are hidden weapons scattered throughout the game, plus plenty of “deep-cutEaster eggs” for pop culture aficionados and Funko lovers to enjoy. These are no doubt exciting, but the game doesn’t forget the core of Funko POPs themselves. The figurine is no doubt the main attraction, but the boxes are as iconic as the POPs they hold. As Parsons explained,

The Funko POP! box is iconic and instantly recognizable, so it had to be a key feature in the game – both from the “Funko Collector” vibe of the character select, through to it being the method of travel between worlds, and also how you change characters.

How Funko FusionEncourages Collection

Players progress throughFunko Fusionby unlocking new worlds, characters, mechanics, and upgrades in any order they choose. “Effectively, the more you play the game, the more tools at your disposal, the more hidden funplay you can find and unlock,” Parsons explained. He feels that the many different worlds to explore, and the many characters, weapons, and upgrades that inhabit them will makeFunko Fusion"appeal tocompletionist gamers" but also not leave out “those gamers that want an increased challenge” and “players that may want to play as their favorite characters.”

Finally, Parsons included one more tease: there’s more fun collection action to be had once theFunko Fusioncredits have rolled. In the post-game, collectors can find “secret cameo quests…hidden cameo levels, hidden secrets, and unlockable hidden characters and variants.” Collectors can easily spend hours finding everythingFunko Fusionhas to offer - and, of course, there will be some tie-in Funko POP figurines released as well, so players can add to their physical collection at the same time.
