These two form the backbone of the entire story, as players must do all they can to defeat Eddy and save Freddy. And because of that story, Freddy Funko suddenly feels like far more than a simple mascot,making him worthy of anyone’s Funko collection.

Freddy Funko has been Funko’s mascot for a while now, but he has never really gone above that. Collectors were able to buy all sorts of different Freddy merch, as Funko made dozens of different figures for him. However, at the same time, the company was churning out countless Pop figures based on practically every franchise imaginable, so fans had little reason to seek out Freddy when they could purchasethe likes of Luke Skywalker, Spider-Man, or Pikachu. No matter how much Freddy merch was being made, that perception did not really change among collectors.
With the release ofFunko Fusion, Freddy has suddenly become much more than a simple mascot. The entire game followshis fight against the villainous Eddy, as he tasks the player with collecting crowns littering the multiverse. As they do this, Freddy slowly becomes stronger so that he can finally take down his arch-nemesis for good. Not only does this make for an exciting adventure, but it also turns what was once just a mascot for toys into the central protagonist of the entire story.
Funko Fans May Have a Reason to Collect Freddy Now
Now that Freddy Funko is atthe center point ofFunko Fusion’s story, fans have some proper cause to like him. Up until now, he has mostly operated as just a logo or marketing gimmick, but now, he is being penned as a protector of the multiverse, which means that without him, the Funko universe may not exist. Plus, the creation of his arch-nemesis Eddy gives him so much more story potential, which Funko may be tapping into for years to come.
Of course,the big IPs that Funko makes collectibles forwill still get the majority of the attention. At the end of the day, Freddy Funko is simply a mascot for the brand, akin to a simple cereal box character. That being said,Funko Fusionhas at least made him a bit more interesting as it has allowed him to step out of the shadows of his more famous pop culture neighbors. Not just that, but now he has some intriguing lore, he has been connected to the multiverse, and players have actually gotten to see him in action.
It remains to be seen if Freddy’s inclusion inFunko Fusionactually affects his popularity. Already, Funko has released special Funko Pops of Freddy and Eddy to coincide with the game’s release. If those end up selling well, then there will likely be plenty more to come. At the end of the day, Freddy Funko will probably not be going anywhere anytime soon, but at least Funko can make his adventures a bit more intriguing through video games.
