Many of these rumors have been corroborated by various leakers and insiders, though this also makes it difficult to determine what is factual and what is speculation. Some of these rumors have even suggested that the remake was in the works at the studio behindFinal Fantasy 14and16, Creative Business Unit 3.

Creative Business Unit 3 is the studio that is responsible for maintaining and developing theFinal Fantasy 14MMO. The game occasionally held collaboration events with other games,Final Fantasy 9being one of them. Before the release of the Dawntrail Expansion forFF14, Yoshida teased that there wasa secret reason for theFF9references in Dawntrail, which naturally led fans to speculate about the remake being in development. However, Yoshida has denied the rumors about it being worked on at Creative Business Unit 3, and addressed them again in a recent interview.

In aninterview with jpgamesat Gamescom, Yoshida was asked iftheFinal Fantasy 9collaboration withFF14was going to tie into a remake of the former. Yoshida once again stated that the collaboration between the two games wasn’t a sign of anFF9remake, saying that the developers thought about it in that way. That said, he notes there are a lot of fans who are huge fans ofFF9, and that if they were to remake it, it would be a huge undertaking due to the amount of things in it. Yoshida then noted that if there was any team that would undertake the task, he would wish them the best of luck.

Naoki Yoshida Says ‘Good Luck’ To Anyone Looking To Remake FF9

This isn’t the first timeYoshida was asked aboutFinal Fantasy 9remake rumors, stating that he had no involvement in any sort of project despite the widespread speculation. Yoshida himself said that a remake of the game would likely be a big project on the same scale or larger than Square Enix’s currentFF7remake trilogy.
