There are few feelings better than loading into a game and immediately being offered a veritable buffet of unique, stylishly designed characters to choose from. The upcoming hero-focusedbattle royaleFate Trigger: The Novitaclearly understands the brief; it will launch with a roster of around 20 anime-style heroes and heroines for players to select. Each ofFate Trigger: The Novita’splayable Awakeners has a deep backstory that players can discover as they explore the game’s lore, special powers, and a distinctive posture and movement style that sets them apart on the battlefield.
Game Rant spoke to several members ofFate Trigger:The Novita’sdevelopment team about theroster of charactersavailable in the game. They discussed the characters' powers and backstories, how they differentiate themselves in combat, and more. The team also gave Game Rant a sneak peek at several of the heroes' ultimate abilities and a bit of a deep dive into the backstory and lore of bunny-eared heroine Starhopper.Fate Trigger’scharacters will definitely be one of the game’s strong points when it launches in 2025.
Each Awakener Has Varied But Powerful Abilities
Fate Trigger’sAwakeners are chosen for a variety of reasons to investigate the shattered world and fight against both physical enemies and the spreading, toxic Paleblight phenomenon. Understanding that a hero-focused shooter needed to provide variety, Saroasis Studio created a mix of scouts, attackers, defensive-focused characters, healers, and more, exhibiting a range of primarilyelemental powersincluding wind control, water-based teleportation, and the ability to summon lightning.
“Huxley is an elegant scout who can dazzle foes with deadly mist and her charm,” publishing lead Ruby Liu explained as she showed off several Awakeners' in-battle abilities. “The Sapphire Seafarer uses the power of water to turn invisible… Wind Ranger creates an area where she and her teammates can fly very high.” Each ability shown off is visually stunning, with lightning arcing across the battlefield or lines of gorgeous blue water marking Sapphire Seafarer’s route. Of course, the characters can also wield a variety of guns, allowing players to alternate between shooting at enemies and unleashingpowerful ultimate skills.
Animal-Themed Heroes Like Starhopper Have Hidden Backstories
Among the roster of heroes available at launch is Starhopper, a timid bunny-eared girl with adefensive play style. Starhopper utilizes a controller-like game machine in battle, which lets her create pixelated walls and fortresses to block enemy shots. Her ultimate ability creates a pixelated tower that she and her allies can climb on top of to gain the high ground, raining shots down upon the enemy for as long as the tower stands.
Liu, a big fan of the bunny girl, hinted that Starhopper is much more than she appears, encouraging players to learn more about her backstory and its hidden secrets as the game progresses:
“She may look like just a timid bunny, but she has a rich background story. When you learn it, you’ll find she is not just a bunny… Her background story tells where she came from and her origins - and she comes from a game world. She lives in a game world.”
Saroasis Studios also revealed that moreanimal-themed heroeswill appear in future updates toFate Trigger, and that they will have rich and complex backstories similar to Starhopper. Players will find that these characters are “more than just the bodies [they] see,” an imaginative twist thatFate Triggeris able to accomplish due to its anime art style. In addition to the game itself, which will enter closed alpha in late September, players will be able to learn more about the backstories and personalities of Starhopper and the other heroes in manga, trailers, and other spin-off materials to be released at an unspecified date.
