Summary
One unlucky fan of theFalloutfranchise who recently broke their hand decided to make the best of a bad situation by using their cast as a surprisingly appropriate tribute to longtime series mascot Vault Boy. While the injury is unfortunate, theFallout-themed artwork accompanying it is a work of brilliance.
Created by Leonard Boyarsky long before Bethesda acquired the franchise,Vault Boy has served asFallout’s mascotsince the original game’s release in 1997. His chipper, cartoonish countenance has graced menu screens since the series' top-down, turn-based RPG days, with his original role mostly centering around humorous illustrations of SPECIAL stats and individual perks.
One fan that recently suffered a broken hand showed their dedication to Vault Boy by drawing him on their cast, over their palm. But the illustration they chose to mimic is an appropriate one for their predicament, showing off the image thatFallout’s health recovery systemdisplays when a player receives an injury that cripples their arm. Reddit user Xicole354 explained that they lost a fight with a flight of stairs, but they’re using the accident as an opportunity to show off their love for the franchise. While the break happened in their dominant hand, they seem to have been able to recreate theFalloutmascot pretty faithfully.
Fallout Fan Offers Their Broken Hand in Tribute to Vault Boy
With commenters cracking jokes about Stimpacks and the player making Deezer’s Lemonade out of lemons, a reference to the drink-dispensing Mr. Handy inFallout 4’s Covenant settlement, the illustrated injury seems to be a big hit amongFalloutfans. But as much delight as the cast art is bringing to the community, there are a few adjustments that could be made. One commenter noted that the image is showing the injury to the wrong hand, to which Xicole354 humorously responded, “I was in pain, Doc!” Another suggested that the back side of the cast provides the perfect opportunity for the artist to use their skills to put aPip-Boy on their wrist.
Unfortunately, the injury does mean that this Fallout player is sidelined from video games for the time being, as the cast completely restricts any movement of the thumb on their injured hand. Still, at least they’re able to get their post-apocalyptic fix through theFalloutdeck they’re using inMagic: The Gathering.
