Summary

Jyamma Games' SoulslikeEnotria: The Last Songcan certainly be challenging at times, although that challenge is generally due to enemies having large health pools. Regardless,Enotria’s frequent difficulty spikescan lead to players looking for a quick escape from danger using the game’s most overpowered weapons and skills. Almost every RPG has an overpowered build at some point, even Soulslikes, and the build currently dominatingEnotria’s playing field centers around its poisonous Malanno element.

Enotria: The Last Song’s Malanno element is just one of four elements that players can take advantage of when battling some of the game’s toughest foes. However, it has quickly become the building block for some of the most powerful builds inEnotria, and with good reason.

Enotria: The Last Song’s Malanno Element Is Overpowered

Unlike Other Elements in Enotria: The Last Song, Malanno Doesn’t Inflict a Buff

Enotria’s elemental systemis unlike most other elemental affinity systems, in that, while each element does inflict a status effect, that status effect generally applies both a buff and a debuff to enemies and players. A full buildup ofEnotria’s Gratia element, for instance, applies the Radiant status effect, which causes health recovery over time but simultaneously triggers a powerful explosion upon getting hit that can knock the attacker backward and end the status prematurely. The same rule applies to another two ofEnotria’s four elements, Vis and Fatuo. Malanno, on the other hand, is the outlier in the group, as its status effect behaves differently than the others.

Rather than applying a buff and a debuff once the status is built up,Enotria’s Malanno element simply applies a debuff. Specifically, once Malanno is fully built up on the player or an enemy, it inflicts Sickness on them, which causes their health to drain continuously until the effect expires. In essence, it functions as poison would in some other games that feature the status effect, butEnotria’s Malanno comes with the added benefit of being the only element in the game that behaves the way that it does. This has led to Malanno builds being some of the most overpowered andpopular builds inEnotria, even just a few days into its life.

It is possible for players and enemies nearby the one inflicted with Sickness to also lose health, but that is hardly a buff since it is rarely a good idea to remain close to an enemy inEnotria. In light of that, Malanno continues to have an advantage overEnotria’s other three elements.

Not Even a Nerf May Be Able to Stop Enotria: The Last Song’s Malanno Element

Unfortunately, there is already a nerf on the way forEnotria’s Sickness status effect, though it’s unclear how much less powerful Malanno will be once all is said and done. Even so, not even a nerf may be able to stopEnotria’s Malanno element from being the best element in the game, simply because it is the only element that doesn’t provide a buff. To properly balance Malanno withEnotria’s other elements, a nerf would need to accomplish more than merely lessening the amount of health that Sickness drains over time. Another advantage Malanno has overEnotria’s other elements is that it applies a “set it and forget it” debuff that can deal damage while players focus on evading enemy attacks.

Even with a nerf on its way,Enotria’s Malanno elementmay continue to stand out among the crowd and dominate the playing field due to its lack of an actual buff and its ability to drain health over time without any additional help from the player. Should players need an extra bit of help conqueringEnotria’s toughest bosses, they should look no further than a Malanno build that can apply the Sickness debuff as quickly as possible.
