Summary

The upcoming Marvel Cinematic UniverseVisionseries in development for Disney+ has long been rumored to be the project that will finally return the Scarlet Witch to the franchise as part of bringing closure to the storyline started inWandavision, but new information seems to suggest that it won’t be the last.

TheMCU’sVisionproject has been on the table for a long while now, as it was originally envisioned as a spin-off of the successfulWandavisionDisney+ run that helped to kick off the franchise’s presence on streaming. The series is set up to explore what has become of Paul Bettany’s Vision following the events of the parent series, and the project seems set to really build up Vision for another stint in the spotlight as the rest of the MCU moves towards the nextAvengerstitle. Sweetening the deal is news thatJames Spader could return as a very different Ultronin the upcoming series, making it both a draw for fans of the iconic MCU villain and a potential gold mine for the franchise via character development and storyline possibilities.

While fans are interested in the Vision series, the other MCU characters being included in the project have been of a bit more import than any other details. In addition to Spader, it’s been prominently mentioned thatElizabeth Olsen will also be returning as Wanda Maximoff inVision, and now a new report seems to suggest that there’ll be even more in store for her following her return on Disney+. According to a recent report fromProduction Weekly, Marvel Studios is now developing a solo Scarlet Witch project with Olsen set to reprise her iconic role. This report indicates very early development, so fans should take the news with a grain of salt for now.

Going further into details on the reported Wanda-centered theatrical project, the report also suggests that Wandavision writers Jac Schaeffer and Megan McDonnell will be attached to pen the project following their most recent work on theAgatha All Alongminiseries, which is set to close out the year on the MCU’s release schedule. Oddly, the proposed film has also been given a 2026 release window by the report, lining up with the planned release window for theVisionseries. This could be to facilitate a relationship between the events of both projects, in a similar vein to how the events ofWandavisionlinked up to the main plot ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. This project could also be the platform for onebig character progression that Olsen has been looking forward to

Many fans believe thatthe MCU owes the Scarlet Witch her own movieafter all her stirring performances in the MCU both before, during, and after its Infinity Saga peak. Olsen has easily been one of the best parts of the MCU post-Endgame, and a solo project for the Scarlet Witch would also go a long way to give her character arc some solid closure beyond her hasty self-sacrificial act of redemption at the end ofDoctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. If she’s to survive and live on in the MCU, this project could also be instrumental in setting up her mindset, abilities and motivations heading into the next Avengers-level threat in the coming phase of the MCU.

While the thought of a solo project is interesting, there have also been rumors thatElizabeth Olsen’s big MCU return might not be as the Scarlet Witch, and while the two possibilities aren’t mutually exclusive, this would seriously change the direction of a potential solo film. Fans will have to wait and see how the events of theVisionseries

The MCU’sVisionseries is currently set for a 2026 release on Disney+.
