Despite the base game ofElden Ringalready featuring a massive variety of weapons for players to master, the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC still managed to introduce several new and interesting weapon types to the game. Among thenew weapon types added inElden Ring’s DLCare the unique, melee and ranged hybrid weapons, the Smithscript weapons.

One of the few downsides to the new Smithscript weapons inElden Ringis that each weapon can only be obtained once per playthrough unless players receive additional copies of the weapons through trading. So, players won’t be able to dual-wield some of the Smithscript weapons or combine two of the same weapons with different Affinities without some extra effort. However, these weapons are well worth the effort to obtain, considering how much build-crafting potential they present by combining melee and ranged combat.

Elden Ring’s Smithscript Weapons Combine the Best Parts of Melee and Ranged Builds

While they might not cover a long enough distance to cheese enemies and bosses from across the map with their ranged attacks, the new Smithscript weapons inElden Ringare still a game-changer, offering a unique mix of melee and ranged attacks without the hassle of managing FP, consumable items, or ammunition. For players who haven’t given these weapons a chance yet, Smithscript weapons can be the perfect way to spice up a playthrough with a new build or to fill in some of the gaps in an existing build.

Smithscript weapons have attribute requirements and scaling to Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, and Faith. While Strength and Dexterity are commonly paired attributes formelee builds inElden Ring, double-dipping in Intelligence and Faith is a much less popular pairing because there are only a handful of weapons and spells that can take advantage of both of these attributes simultaneously. However, with the new Smithcript weapons added inElden Ring’s Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, players shouldn’t overlook the power and utility these weapons can provide just because of their unusual attribute requirements.

Players can change a weapon’s scaling attributes by equipping an Affinity to a weapon, although the attribute requirements needed to wield a weapon can’t be changed.

Smithscript Weapons Pair Well With Existing Builds

If players already meet the initial attribute requirements to wield one of the Smithscript weapons, it’s highly worth adding one of these weapons onto an existing build to have an infinite-use ranged and melee hybrid weapon as a backup to their primary weapons. Since theSmithscript Daggerand theSmithscript Cirqueare lightweight, most players likely have the space to equip one of these weapons in their off-hand without increasing their equipment load too much.

The two Smithscript weapons have the highest attack speed among the Smithscript weapons’ ranged attacks, so slotting a Bleed, Poison, or Frost Affinity onto them makes them perfect for applying status effects to enemies from a relatively safe distance. Admittedly though, the maximum range of the Smithscript weapons’ ranged attacks is fairly short compared to other ranged weapons and spells. Still though, inflicting status effects with an infinite-use ranged weapon is just one of the manyoverpowered builds in Elden Ringthat players can create with Smithscript weapons.

Smithscript Weapons Also Work as Primary Weapons

Instead of mixing one of the lightweight Smitchscript weapons onto an existing build, the unmatched versatility of these weapons is arguably worth investing in as a primary weapon or adual-wielding build inElden Ring. Unlike theSmithscript Dagger, the other Smithscript weapons offer a mix of melee and ranged attacks, and with the right attributes and Affinity, the melee attacks on these weapons can often compete with some of the top-tier weapons in each category, without taking into account the added utility of these weapons’ ranged attacks.
