Ever since the indefinite hiatus that theDragon Ball Superanime went on back in 2017, fans have been greatly anticipating its eventual return, using every moment to theorize aboutSuper’ssecond season. However, when news of the latest anime adaptation of the series broke to the public in late 2023, pretty much no one could have expected the direction the franchise was going in!
Dragon Ballis expected to make itsreturn in the form ofDaima, a brand-new series that took quite an unseen turn in terms of its storytelling. By having the main cast turn into children, it was clear that the series was headed in a different direction from what fans were expecting. However, this may serve as the perfect means of having the overall franchise undergo a soft reboot, so let’s see how this could be possible!

Where the series could be headed
So far, very little is known about the actual plot and direction that this new series is going to take. However, abrand-new trailer that was releasedon the 4th of September, 2024 seemed to reveal a little more about the circumstances behind the transformation of the characters as well as the new state of the world that the heroes find themselves in.
The trailer shows a younger version of Goku and Shin traveling to a previously unexplored dimension within theDragon Ballmultiverse called the Demon Realm. Though very little is currently known about this place, it has been alluded to since very early on in the series, with the resident demons playing a significant role in the series' past. One of the most memorable new characters inDragon Z’sBuu Saga was the powerful Demon King Dabura and the Majin race that Buu belongs to are known as Demons as well.

Once within this realm, the heroes will seemingly fight their way through droves of enemies and confront the big-bads who are directly responsible for what has happened to them. Though this seems to be the most likely option for how everything will play out, fans can never know for sure until the series actually airs. However, the thing that remains the most likely is the fact thatDaimacould serve as theperfect opportunity to have a soft reboot!

Upon having the main cast transform into children and seemingly spending the duration of the series trying to turn themselves back to normal, the groundwork is laid for the franchise to undergo a soft reboot. One way for this to happen could be that, in an effort to change themback into their regular forms, the toll of doing it could be quite great, forcing a more substantial change than was expected.
Though many fans wouldn’t like it, it could also be that in trying to change everything back to the way it was, God Ki and the Divine Techniques are no longer an option. This is because in some of the news and details shared aboutDaima, it has been confirmed that the God forms and all Divine Techniques are off the table for the characters, since it is already established that Goku and Vegeta only have access to their regular Super Saiyan forms and not anything that stems from their God Ki.
Power comes in response to a need, not a desire. You have to create that need.
Moreover, it’s possible that the wish to turn everything back to how it used to be has a greater toll on the world and reality than what was expected, leading to the world changing in unprecedented ways. Due toDragon Ballbeing a franchise that often contains plot conveniences, it’s not difficult to assume that something like this could happen.
Through this method, there can finally be a retcon to the ‘End of Z’, which many fans have been wondering about for quite some time. This is the short scene that happens at the end of the Buu Saga, where Goku flies off with Uub, indicating that all the events ofDragon Ball Superhappened in the 10 years after the defeat of Kid Buu and before the scene itself. Because of this, fans always thought thatSuperhad little stakes since everyone was confirmed to havesurvived at the End of Z.
However, ifDaimadoes, in fact, have an ending that somehow reboots the franchise, the End of Z is something thatDragon Ballwill no longer be restricted by, allowing for the stakes to be raised once more and more creative and exciting new stories to be told. Though the End of Z does end on a bittersweet note that lets fans have a final goodbye to their favorite characters,Daimacan serve as the means to unblock the future of the franchise!
