That design trend will continue with BioWare’s upcomingDragon Age: Inquisitionsequel,Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but seeing as it has now been nearly a decade since the release of the previous installment, fans may be wondering whether their most important choices fromDragon Age:Inquisitionwill carry over toDragon Age:The Veilguard.
As it turns out,Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill indeed account for some of the choices players made inDragon Age: Inquisition.In a recent interview with IGN,Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s creative director, John Epler, disclosed some details about how the game will honor the choices made by players inDragon Age: Inquisition, explaining that players will be able to select a few story decisions from the “Adventurer’s Past” section when creating their character. Each of these decisions will directly involve the Inquisitor, but more specifically who the Inquisitor romanced, whether the Inquisition was disbanded, and whether players chose to stop Solas or redeem him in the end. While these are all notable decisions to be considered, there is no indication of whetherDragon Age: The Veilguardwill account for what is arguably the most difficult choice inDragon Age: Inquisition.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Seemingly Won’t Account for Who Drank From the Well of Sorrows
Dragon Age: Inquisition’s Well of Sorrows Choice Should Affect the Return of Morrigan and The Inquisitor
Despite the fewDragon Age: InquisitionchoicesthatDragon Age: The Veilguardwill honor, it seems as though it will not take into consideration who drank from the Well of Sorrows in the previous game. Shortly after arriving at the Well of Sorrows inDragon Age: Inquisition, players were required to choose whether their Inquisitor or Morrigan would drink from it. Those who played throughDragon Age: Inquisitionlikely remember how difficult this choice was, as the one chosen to drink from the Well of Sorrows would be bound to the will of Flemeth, ultimately lending themselves over to her control.
With both Morrigan and the Inquisitor confirmed to return inDragon Age: The Veilguard, it makes little sense why the Well of Sorrows choice wouldn’t be taken into consideration, especially since an arguably more insignificant choice like the Inquisitor’s romance is. What this suggests is that the choice made at the Well of Sorrows either doesn’t impactDragon Age: The Veilguard’s story, or that the upcoming installment has simply already made that choice for players and will include the outcome in the default state of its world.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard May Have Made the Well of Sorrows Choice for Players
As unfortunate as it may be,Dragon Age: The Veilguardmight have made theWell of Sorrows choiceon players' behalf without asking them first. This is perplexing, considering BioWare has stated multiple times that a significant portion ofDragon Agecanon is defined by the players, but it may nonetheless be a reality they will have to face.
InDragon Age: The Veilguard’s release date trailer, Morrigan can be seen wearing a crown that resembles the one her mother, Flemeth, wore, who was also Mythal’s former host. This could mean thatDragon Age: The Veilguardhas decided that Morrigan was the one to drink from the Well of Sorrows, as it suggests that she is under the control of Flemeth, who has knowingly wanted to possess Morrigan sinceDragon Age: Origins. Epler has gone on record saying that Morrigan’s crown is only a “variation” of her mother’s, but that could be misdirection to avoid spoilers.
