Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguardwill have a native photo mode, BioWare has revealed. This newly confirmedDragon Age: The Veilguardfeature will be a first for the series.
The fourth mainline installment in the RPG franchise is scheduled for release on October 31. BioWare and EA have recently started ramping up their marketing efforts in the run-up to the game’s debut by gradually and consistentlysharing new details aboutDragon Age: The Veilguard.
DA: The Veilguard Will Be the First Dragon Age Game With Photo Mode
In yet another example of this trend, BioWare recentlytoldIGN thatThe Veilguardwill boast a built-in photo mode from day one, thus being the firstDragon Agegameto offer this feature. The mode will have a fairly conventional interface split across five tabs, with each of them offering a specific category of adjustments that will let players get creative with the shots they take. The functionalities that BioWare confirmed so far include a fairly typical set of sliders for controlling focal length, aperture, and basic image properties like brightness, contrast, saturation, and bloom intensity.
The photo mode camera will be able to roam freely in its search of the ideal shot. Its movement is still expected to be restricted to a preset radius around the player’s party, as that’s how nearly every popular photo mode implementation works these days. The fifth and final tab of the photo mode interface contains four visibility toggles. These allow players to (un)hideDragon Age: The Veilguard’s companions, protagonist, enemies, and other NPCs. The mode will also be able to produce vignette effects of varying, user-controlled intensity.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Photo Mode Features
BioWare Director Corinne Busche said that this newly confirmed addition partially owes its existence to thephoto mode that the developer introduced inMass Effect Legendary Editionback in 2021. Specifically, she credited BioWare Producer Brenon Holmes forThe Veilguard’s photo mode, saying he both advocated for this feature and “did a lot of the work” that was necessary for implementing it into the upcomingDragon Agegame.
AlthoughThe VeilguardandMass Effect Legendary Editiondon’t share the same engine, it is possible that BioWare was still able to reuse some of the latter’s code as part of its latest take on a 3D game photo mode. IfThe Veilguard’s photo mode is based on the company’s prior implementation of this feature, it might also end up including various filters and a film grain slider, both of which were present in theMass Effectremasters.
