Summary

Diablo 4just revealed a new lore video forVessel of Hatredthat goes into Neyrelle’s mindset, goals, and struggles leading up to the upcoming expansion pack. Fittingly called “Neyrelle’s Lament,” thisDiablo 4lore video seems to shine an even darker light on her doomed quest to destroy Mephisto.

At the end ofDiablo 4, Neyrelle – the young scholar players meet early in Act 1 – absconds with the soulstone of Mephisto in hopes of finding a way to destroy the Lord of Hatred once and for all. However, during therelease date trailer forDiablo 4: Vessel of Hatred, fans are shown that things aren’t going well on her journey so far; she is tormented by Mephisto with visions of her mother, and her own body being mutilated. The uncontrolled powers of the soulstone even unintentionally slay her guide.

Now, another new lore video ahead ofVessel of Hatredshows just how grim things are looking for Neyrelle. This video, titled “Neyrelle’s Lament,” is narrated by the former Horadrim aspirant. She begins with a statement illustrating her disillusionment with the state of Sanctuary: “The darkness of the Hells and the light of the Heavens are the same.” She goes on to describe how her innocent curiosity about the heroes of the Horadrim led her to see them as nothing more than “flawed, scared people, stumbling through the darkness with nothing but a sputtering candle for guidance.” To make things worse, Neyrelle’s voice begins to get deeper and take on a haunting reverberation effect – an audible sign of her growing demonic corruption.

Neyrelle’s Damned Quest in Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred?

Neyrelle fights back against the influence, giving voice to her determination to keep fighting, despite the signs that her sanity is slipping. She evokes the deeds of the champions who defeated the Prime Evils before, making clear her intention todestroy Mephisto’s stone and end his threat inDiablo 4once and for all, no matter the cost. However, near the end, as she says “I will not stand alone,” her voice corrupts again, with another voice seemingly saying the word “we” instead.

Needless to say, things aren’t looking great for Neyrelle. The lore video appears to take place on the same boat as theVessel of Hatredcinematic, but without the guide, meaning it likely takes place after the fact – showing her stubborn determination to keep going forward no matter what. Hopefully, Lorath and the wanderers who brought about Lilith’s end will be able to track down and save Neyrelle before she truly becomes theVessel of Hatredin theDiablo 4expansion.

Fans won’t have to wait long to find out what fate awaits the doomed scholar.Diablo 4: Vesselof Hatred releases on October 8, so players will be able to dive into the new expansion just in time for the Halloween season.
